Dr. Sowell on the Dumbing Down of America

Dr. Sowell's latest opinion piece takes aim at the American education system.

Being of French heritage, I get a little rankled at the French jokes.  Though well deserved since WWII, prior to 1940 however the French were a force to be feared.   What happened?   Here's an excerpt from the good Doctor.

Quote

In France between the two World Wars, the teachers' union decided that schools should replace patriotism with internationalism and pacifism. Books that told the story of the heroic defense of French soldiers against the German invaders at Verdun in 1916, despite suffering massive casualties, were replaced by books that spoke impartially about the suffering of all soldiers -- both French and German -- at Verdun.

Germany invaded France again in 1940, and this time the world was shocked when the French surrendered after just 6 weeks of fighting -- especially since military experts expected France to win. But two decades of undermining French patriotism and morale had done their work.

Is the US now in the same position?

Quote

American schools today are similarly undermining American society as one unworthy of defending, either domestically or internationally. If there were nuclear attacks on American cities, how long would it take for us to surrender, even if we had nuclear superiority -- but were not as willing to die as our enemies were?

Actually the French have not been worthy of respect, let alone fear, since Waterloo.
Kind of funny that the best General France ever produced wasn't French.

If you look at the political history you will find that the French Teacher's Unions did not just dream up the "internationalist" approach.
It stemmed from the heavy communist influence in all labor organizations . It was part of a world wide infiltration program run by the Soviets called the "ComIntern", or "Communist International.
And for you who will claim it's tin foil time I issue a challenge .
Don't comment on my post unless you have facts to back it up.

Thanks, Gaspasser, it seems longer than that. HJope he rejoins us soon (meaning: hope his dad recovers).

That tends to happen when one has the facts to back up what he says.
