Help, Suggestions for new AR build
« on: January 09, 2013, 05:56:20 PM »
So I got my hands on a stripped lower.

Here is what I plan to do for sure:

VLTOR 6 position MOD Stock
Ambi Selector Switch
Magpul MIAD Grip
Oversized Trigger Guard. (Because I'm a wuss and standard trigger guards are sharp  :'( )
VTAC Super V Trigger

The upper and glass are still classified at this time.

My question, who has the best "guts" to finish up my lower?

My Bushmaster Lower parts kit turned out to be a dream match for my POF lower. The wonderful thing is they can all work.

The terrible thing is today prices and availability suck.

+ 1 on VLTOR
+ 1 on the oversize trigger guard.

The Falcon ERGO grip is cheaper and just as good.

Daniel Defense is still selling componants with a "non-gouging" price schedule.

I went with a Colt HBAR 16" cold forged barrel "thick one"...with a Miculek comp.,and a DD Upper and DD BCG.

Hope you find your parts, at a fair price.

I have a DPMS lower parts kit, and have had it for awhile. I already have most of the parts I need in a pinch. But I like having those as emergency spare parts. As far as lower kits, so far they are available if you look, and not bad prices either. I hesitate to get new DPMS parts since I believe they are still being made overseas. The kit I have, was purchased before that development. I was thinking hard about a Stag Arms lower kit. Problem is, since I'm upgrading many of the parts a full kit is way overkill. Then again a full kit is less expensive then purchasing separately, and I would have MORE spare parts. I think all I really need is the take down pins and the magazine release. The trigger I'm putting in is a drop in. What am I forgetting? The selector spring? What is the spring that is exposed when you take off the castle nut?

I have heard good things about the Rock River Arms RRA LPK with the two stage trigger.

Might be able to get then here:

When did DPS start the overseas out sourcing.  I have an old LPK that I forgot I had and have kept it back as a spare.

I like Bravo Company MFG (BCM) For bolt and bolt carrier group.
Give me liberty or I'll get my guns and get it myself.

I was told by my local shop that it happened about 4 years ago. I remember because I had just finished building a DPMS.

I think that is about when I got the LPK, do you know if there is a way to tell the difference?

For detailed video instructions go to Brownell's and click on AR 15 builder.
They have a series of video's that walk you through the whole build process.
Build your lower inside a clear trash bag, that way you do not lose any of the pins and springs when ( not if ) some thing pings off into the unknown.
