Tactical Walls
« on: January 14, 2013, 02:15:05 PM »
Saw these on AR15News.com....... Hidden gun storage (for rapid retrieval) behind ordinary looking objects. This is not a new concept, but these are more extensive than the old standard. Not terribly priced, but someone with decent carpentry/furniture building skills could fabricate something like this themselves. I have been looking at doing something similar for a hidden HD shotgun.

Very good information.  Looks like a product that is easy to use, and it would be interesting to see the quality.  If you have basic home improvement skills, former standard knowledge for homeowners, you could easily set this up yourself in any configuration you like.

I was thinking of making something similar, but my original idea included a hinged mirror/door....... I really like the sliding system they use.

+1 on the slides.  A little latch hidden up top to keep it from sliding open would be pretty cool too.

I thought of using those magnets like on an entertainment center.

They had something like this last year at the NRA show. They had bio metric print recognition in the corner to open it. They looked very well built, and easy to install between the studs.

A plastic or aluminum lined pair of holes (single hole through frame and body of case) at a downward angle with a quarter inch metal dowel in it.  A strong magnet held against the frame will retract the dowel and allow the frame to slide open, and when you remove the magnet the dowel drops back into the lock position.

Hard to describe, but if you suck down a couple shots it will become crystal clear  ;)

I think a version of that has been around for a while but the price point was just too high for me to bite.  But now that I own my house I am looking at it a little closer if I don't build my own.

Our house has a "water wall" that has all the piping running through it between the kitchen and hallway. It's about 10 inches deep and is about 5 1/2 feet long. I've always wanted to do something, maybe this would be a good time to explore it a little more.

Same here.
The wall between our master bedroom and den is double the standard wall thickness.
