Secure our Children you F…ing Idiots Act of 2013
« on: January 22, 2013, 07:19:13 PM »
Like all of you when I see what liberals are doing in the name of keeping kids safe I have been frustrated that most of what is being proposed does not keep kids or schools safe.  Infringing on the rights of law abiding citizens solves nothing.  We know there will be another tragic incident at some point in the future.  It is just a matter of time.

I was somewhat troubled by the NRA’s response.  They did not offer a program and they didn’t have key legislators lined up to sponsor legislation.  If they had they could have seized the opportunity to get out ahead of the anti-gun zealots.

I want to begin a grassroots effort to offer an alternative to taking action that does not offer any kind of solution to the killing of innocent people in a school setting.

To this end I offer the Secure our Children you F…ing Idiots Act of 2013.  Perhaps the name needs to change but I think in coveys my point.

I am serious out this.  I’m offering these ideas as a working paper and I would like your ideas to help refine this initiative.  If we can build a good case and program perhaps we can assist in moving real action.

Secure our Children you F…ing Idiots Act of 2013

Schools will develop and implement a building safety program.
  • After school begins all access doors should be secured to limit inbound access to the school.
  • There should be only one main door for access during school hours.
  • The main inbound access door should be secured and act as a challenge point.
  • All visitors to the school will be challenged to:
       * log in and log out
       * state the purpose of the visit
       * have their belongings searched along with emptying all pockets
       * provide an escort for the visitor to their destination
       * provide an escort for visitors to leave the building

Implement a secure card access system for staff and contractors.

Develop a training program, similar to the FAA pilot firearm training, to certify volunteer teachers, staff and administrators in the use of firearms in an effort to deter and respond to deadly violence in the school.
  • Standardized program
  • Training in the legal issues associated carrying a fire arm.
  • Provide Tactical Training on the protection of the school building in the event deadly force situation.
  • Proficiency and qualification testing.
  • Rectification program

Every school in this area already has the first half of that, has for years.  The front entrance to the schools only open into the office and the rest can only be opened from the inside.  All non-staff must be signed in and wear a VISITOR sticker.  Anyone staying in a classroom more than a few minutes must have a cursory background check done by the district, including any field trip escorts (parents).

As for the training:  I spent a good deal of time on hold with the NRA today, the member services rep I did talk to read a card about thier SHIELD program before transferring me to someone else.  THey have a program in place but have been told by the gov't not to bother, and teh MSM isn't talking about it because it actually has a chance of protecting the schools.
When seconds mean the difference between life and death, the police will be minutes away.

You are either SOLVING the problem, or you ARE the problem.
