intresting question...
« on: January 28, 2013, 02:20:57 AM »
lets just say for the sake of argument,  that with some new gun control law could wave a magic wand and prevent all bad guys from getting thier hands on guns,  would you support it?         we all know that can't happen, but lets just say it did.

Let's just say, for the sake of argument, that we confine ourselves to debating facts based upon reality instead of debating the color of unicorn farts.

TAB,

Your question is meaningless without details of what that magical law would contain.

Who gets to define bad guy? The same brain-trust that argue "what the definition of is, is"?

If'n I got a magic wand, I want it to send professional politicians to the core of the sun.

If bad guys didn't have guns they'd use machetes or axes or whatever they could get their bloody hands on.

Disarming the criminals is part of the solution but it is not the end-all-be-all we need to break the dependency of the masses and re-instill the self-sufficiency of our founding fathers.

Exactly.  They are calling most returning GI's possible bad guys....along with other political positions.

No, I would not support it since , as has been pointed out, it depends on the definition of "bad guy".
That would, by any ones definition, include any one engaged in violent resistance to ANY Govt policy.
It would not matter if that policy was Abortion, ( I'm assuming we can agree that bombing clinics and shooting Dr's is a bad thing) or Concentration Camps with incinerators.

Another item that has been lost over the past year is diagnosing "mental illness."  Go through Pres. BHO's list of Executive Orders.  You will note a lot of sharing diagnosis and opinion on mental status.  Who is to determine what is depression, post traumatic stress disorder, delusion, etc.?

In the not too distant past, and maybe even today, we faced veterans who have been denied firearms because somebody put PTSD on their paperwork.

What is the purpose of our Constitution and its Amendments?  Is it to tightly control our God given rights, or is it to make sure the government does not deny our exercise of those same rights?  In many areas we see a very broad brush being used to paint freedoms of not only our citizens but also those our government deals with.  However, in several areas, including the Second Amendment, we see micro management and denial of rights.
