Just sent my letter.
"I expect perdition, I always have. I keep this building at my back, and several guns handy, in case perdition arrives in a form that's susceptible to bullets. I expect it will come in the disease form, though. I'm susceptible to diseases, and you can't shoot a damned disease." ~ Judge Roy Bean, Streets of Laredo

For the Patriots of this country, the Constitution is second only to the Bible for most. For those who love this country, but do not share my personal beliefs, it is their Bible. To them nothing comes before the Constitution of these United States of America. For this we are all labeled potential terrorists. ~ Dean Garrison

"When it comes to the enemy, just because they ain't pullin' a trigger, doesn't mean they ain't totin' ammo for those that are."~PegLeg

There's plenty of time to contact our Senators, again, and remind them how we feel about this proposal.  Check the link a little later to see the updated witness list.  And remember, you can watch this hearing live using the 'Webcast' feature.  Things are starting to heat up and we need to be ready to call, email, write, and fax at a moment's notice.

NOTICE OF COMMITTEE EXECUTIVE BUSINESS MEETING

An Executive Business Meeting has been scheduled by the Committee on the Judiciary for Thursday, February 28, 2013 at 10:00 a.m., in Room 226 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building.

By order of the Chairman.

UPDATED AGENDA

Senate Committee on the Judiciary
Dirksen Senate Office Building, Room 226
February 28, 2013 at 10:00 a.m.

I. Committee Authorizing Resolutions
II. Nominations
III. Legislation

S.150, Assault Weapons Ban of 2013 (Feinstein)
S.54, Stop Illegal Trafficking in Firearms Act of 2013 (Leahy)
S.374, Protecting Responsible Gun Sellers Act of 2013 (Schumer)
S.146, School Safety Enhancements Act of 2013 (Boxer)

Here are links to the individual bills:

S.150
http://hdl.loc.gov/loc.uscongress/legislation.113s150
This one we know about...  >:(

S.54
http://hdl.loc.gov/loc.uscongress/legislation.113s54
Unless I'm missing something, this one doesn't seem like a problem.

S.374
http://hdl.loc.gov/loc.uscongress/legislation.113s374
This bill was introduced only yesterday and the THOMAS text is not available.  Appear's to be Schumer's version of universal background checks.  >:(

S.146
http://hdl.loc.gov/loc.uscongress/legislation.113s146
Here's another one that doesn't seem like a problem... it just authorizes grants for surveillance equipment and the establishment of hotlines or tiplines for the reporting of potentially dangerous students and situations.  If they don't waste the money or burden the programs with stupid regulations then it could prove helpful.

I don't know why Fienstien even cares. Her mind is made up. Not one word said will change it. I'm just as guilty of course. The only people who are on the fence are pols who don't give a crap about guns and are sticking their fingers in the wind to see what their constituents expect from them. These hearings are useless except for certain revealing moments when folks accidently commit truth on themselves.

In today's mark-up, S.374, Schumer's UBC, was reported to the full Senate along party lines... 10-8.  Boxer's S.146, which provides grant funding for school safety equipment, was reported to the full Senate 14-4.

Consideration of S.150 will continue Thursday as posted above.

Here's an article discussing the general mood surrounding these deliberations.  Our calls, emails, letters, and faxes have prevented the steamroller that the Dems hoped they would have.  Please continue to contact not only your own representatives but also the members of the Senate Judiciary Committee.  Even though we've heard predictions about what will or won't pass, we CAN NOT stop putting pressure on these folks.  It's not a done deal until the full Senate votes... we must not start to feel comfortable or complacent.  Stay in the fight.
