Great episode on social media
« on: February 21, 2013, 12:27:00 PM »
Thanks guys for another great episode of the Best Defense.  I had my four teenagers watch this latest episode and it really helped make my point about being careful online.  Aside from all the jokes they were cracking about Michael Janich and Mike Seeklander, the scenario reenactments helped to make the case.

I am wondering though, with the Macaw's in the background in one scene did we happen to get a glimpse of the "secret hidden bunker"?

I agree!

I used Facebook to let my sheeple know this was on.  These are the same sheeple I am constantly warning about their habits online, and the only comments I have received have been from the choir.

Thanks for another great and useful one!

Since you could not be there to set them down, switch to the channel, and keep the remote, the "choir" are probably the only ones who watched it.
The rest watched "Dancing with the Stars".

The rest are too busy telling me I'm paranoid and over reacting when I point out they shouldn't tell the world they are 2,000 miles from home and the dog is at the kennel because the friends (by name) are also on vacation 1,000 miles the other way.

I've quit worrying about home invasion and break ins.  I leave the most recent client laying on the yard or hanging in a tree until I get a fresh one  ;D

I have some of the best neighbors ever!!! Husband and wife next door. He's retired Army SF, She's a nurse. I watch their place when they're gone, and take care of their pooch. They do the same for me. We have always had an understanding that MOST of the other people in the neighborhood have a hard time wiping their own azz. So we watch after each other.

People that dumb deserve whatever happens to them.
I don't care how religious you are those people prove that not only did Darwin have a point, but a large portion of the population have passed the high point and started back down.
On an opinion site I've been following some one posted the question "Do you smoke weed ?"
My reply was "One thing I DON'T do is admit to any criminal acts in a public website"
I got a reply back, "I use a screen name, what can they do ?"
Dumbass, she signs into that screen name from either E mail or FB accounts .There is no anonymity.

Watched it this PM on DVR.......another great episode.

As a side note, the wife has really been more attentive to this season, due to the subject matter. She said the hotel/travel episode really clicked.
She also said to tell Mike Janich that she's sure he's a really nice guy in person, but he plays the bad guy really well.  ;D  ;D  ;D
"I expect perdition, I always have. I keep this building at my back, and several guns handy, in case perdition arrives in a form that's susceptible to bullets. I expect it will come in the disease form, though. I'm susceptible to diseases, and you can't shoot a damned disease." ~ Judge Roy Bean, Streets of Laredo

For the Patriots of this country, the Constitution is second only to the Bible for most. For those who love this country, but do not share my personal beliefs, it is their Bible. To them nothing comes before the Constitution of these United States of America. For this we are all labeled potential terrorists. ~ Dean Garrison

Have you heard about 'geotags' in pictures posted to these sites?  Many modern cellphones have GPS chips built in and location data is embedded in the photos taken with them.  When these photos are posted to social media sites, that location data is posted right along with the picture.  With a free program downloaded from the Internet, anyone can determine the date and time the photo was taken as well as the exact location where the photo was taken.

So even if you don't publicize your location, that picture of you with your best friend can tell others that you're not at home.

For example:

http://www.saltpepper.net/geotag/

I was watching Castle last night on the DVR with the family and a kidnapping was executed at a "Global warming" seminar because Caste's daughter had video blogged about it the afternoon before.  Even fiction writers understand the danger that social media can have on "high value" targets.
