Somehow, I guess I'm not cut out to be a lobbyist...

To be a good lobbyist, you have to not believe in anything passionately. A Lobbyist is really just an advertising person with a really good rolodex. You can't have the kind of access to politicians that they have unless you willing to be like a lawyer and take any side in an argument that is paying you.
I had the pleasure of trying to represent part of the chemical industry on environmental issues in Sacramento in the 90's. Gave me a up close and personal view of sausage making. I too was told to back off by our time share lobbyist (we rented time as one of his many clients). He was not a bad guy just locked into his role in the cast of characters. He had to live there so he could not point out the lack of fact based logic in the squishy feel good bills designed to gut industry in the state and let the various pols hang a trophy on their walls.
He agreed they were bad bills, but in the end he knew he would be back the next day with other clients. Maybe he could win next time.
Thanks for doing what your doing. I know how aggravating it can be to get the professional politicians (especially the staffers) who are focused on their future careers and have no time to actually learn about the issues in the bill they are voting on today to think about anything bigger than their own hides.
The economic arguments are the winners in their world as they don't really understand the economy, just if they will get blamed or not.
