Even if it was only 1% I'll bet on the house this time but....
I think 1% is low. There are more out there than you think. Some of the greatest are still with us and then there are the current greatest. Those brave souls who stand ready to do violence in our defense everyday. And that doesn't even cover our under appreciated heroes from Korea and Nam. Plus I think you will find that more than you think will stand with us, they just need an example and some leadership.
Call me crazy but I still believe in America and Americans.
Haz, you may be crazy but you are a good American.
The possibility of Barack Hussein Obama winning the upcoming Presidential election has spawned some interesting “revolution” comments on this and other threads. As I sit here enjoying my evening grog, it causes me to think … could a “revolution” actually happen?
If so, to what degree? Would it be something like a full blown fracas like our original revolution? Or something more like a parade that lands in a couple of small towns on a slow news day? Would it be an “economic revolution” such as with “Reaganomics” or a combination of both? How many would actually “take a stand” and face off against overwhelming odds of a well armed and trained government?
I really don’t know. But if I had to guess, I would say that there is nothing from this November’s election and the assumption of Obama becoming President that will cause any revolutions. Just four to eight years of pure misery. Couple reasons for my rationale.
Reagan has been out of office for what, twenty years now? To this, how many strict Reagan-conservatives have been elected in federal, state or local elections? How many have been defeated? If there was ever a time to clone Reagan, we would have seen it by now. Whether it state or federal, we don’t have a lot of true conservatives in the hunt today and not likely tomorrow. Point is, hoping for a Reagan-like conservative in 2016 may just be hoping.
As to an actual revolution … as to bearing arms, an “insurgency” of any scale is tough to do. Despite our high tech ways to communicate, we are still too fragmented to have a disciplined revolt. Lack of organization as well as lack in command and control (as Haz pointed out) means an easy stop by the government that is sworn to defend against foreign and domestic enemies (as in those in the revolution enemies).
To this, our police and military take an oath to defend AND will take orders from our President … even if it is an asshole like Obama. Should there ever be a revolt or riot, I would bet the police and/or military would be on it like a hobo on a ham sandwich. Can’t follow any rationale that the military or police would be involved in a coup either since such actions are viewed as “mutinous” and generally not a good career move here in the US of A.
Lastly, our country is out of practice for a revolution. Look at when the government road over the “Bonus Army” vets after WWI. These were soldiers and not a shot was returned. Flash back to a few years ago. After Katrina with the weapons confiscation the only person that I heard about that had the sand to put up a fight was a 70 plus year old woman. Sure, there have been a few instances where the citizenry took back what was theirs when the government overstepped. But for the most part Americans simply are not willing to come to arms against their own government even if free beer is involved. Besides, should there be an uprising and it fails, how bad do you think the anti-gun movement will be then?
As well, I am not too sure that with this election and the presumption of having Barack Hussein Obama as President, that there is going be the stimulus needed to kick start any revolution of any kind. Obama will bring his form of Marxism with insane fiscal policies that will hurt commerce, will help to erode our values and “founding principles” such as our RKBA and make us a lot less safe in the global war on terror. But this will not be enough for us to figure out how to clone Reagan much less “take a stand” and bear arms against our government.
All B-HO will do is makes us mighty miserable for four to eight years. However, an important element as to why not to let Obama be President is that Obama could have a horrendous effect on our safety given his demonstrated weakness on national security. Meaning, we could find a nuke going off in one of our zip codes. Such effect in a major US city will be devastating in life but would also bring about the ingredients for civil disorder. No electricity. No water. No food. No beer. We wouldn’t be fighting our government as much as each other. Keep in mind, this is not the “revolution” anyone would want. All this would be is a big _________ mess.
There are NO benefits for America or the world to having Barack Hussein Obama as President. None. You need to give your wife justification for the 5,000 rounds of 5.56mm ammo you bought at Midway? Sorry. But just like Y2K, Obama is not going to give us any reason for a revolution, a revolt much less a parade. If he wins, we just get four to eight years of pure misery ... in all 58 states.
