Time for New Army Chief of Staff

 A quote attributed to General Odierno in today's Army Times. In an appearance on " Morning Joe"  The General was asked if Americans should be able to buy  Bushmasters and similar types?
Odierno: I have some concerns about it. I mean with the Job I have... I see too much violence. I have had to witness chaos and war and Killing. What I  would like to see us do is come to an agreement where we identify... we at least register people. " We have a problem. Our suicide rates are very high, and a majority of suicides are done by guns. So what we would like to do is at least get them registered so we can at least understand who has them. That's a military problem that's a little bit of a separate issue."
Brzezinski: What about Assault Weapons though? And the people being able to buy them?
Odierno: "My personal opinion is I don't think we need them. " Pause. But I do think people have the right to bear arms. I obviously agree with that."

Dear General, It is obvious that you no longer support our US Constitution it is time for you to resign. You took an Oath of office to uphold and defend the Us Constitution from all enemies foreign and domestic.  The Second amendment clearly states that the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. Which in Plain english means no laws shall be enacted to restrict  a Law abiding citizens right to own any kind of firearm they choose. Nor does it allow for registration, be it the Citizen or firearm!

His big fail isn't on his opinons. His fail, and it should be career ending, was this. He should have said "As an Army officer, speaking in that role, it would be inappropriate to comment on domestic politics. We do not interfere in that arena". Anything else, on whichever side, scares the hell out of me. If it was a defense or FP question fine, otherwise STFU. We don't need generals cheerleading on this stuff.

The Quaker has squarely hit this nail. 

No military officer, not even a general officer, has any business mouthing off on anything regarding domestic policy.

His next official comment should have been, "I realize I am too stupid to hold this position, so I tender my resignation, effective immediately."

     since we really do not and can not read his mind, was there not a post several weeks ago about general officers who do not "tow the line" or follow Bary's ideas getting relieved or retireing ?  The guy may be just trying to stay under the radar and out of the "target zone" .  If all officers who do support the Constitution openly make remarks that do not tow the line of Barry end up resigning - then we have no chance of depending on a major  FUBAR  if/when the military is told to act upon the US Citizens.

    A comment from officers of following "orders of higher command" just dont get it in this time and place.  The Military is now having to be more openly political in order to survive.

Both of you are thinking as we were taught growing up. That was then, this is now.

What is in place now is a tried and true bho employee for whom the laws, rules and regulations no longer apply, spewing the party line and nothing will come of it. His nose is brown, I'll let you decide what part of bho's loathsome anatomy rubbed off on him.
