Cheap Rainy Day Fun - DIY Nerf/potatoe/paintball Gun
« on: March 08, 2013, 09:50:07 AM »
Whilst at a Hardware store that shall not be named (BBC - Big Bad C##ts) the other day with a mate we noticed that they had something rather cool rather cheaply.
Its a device used to unblock sinks using air pressure, they look like this: and are about 15.00

Now after looking at one of these your probably seeing where I am going.....
Well I did.
Its now been modified by heating the end of a bit of electrical conduit and snugly pushing over the end and allowing to cool.
Before doing this, in the end there is a plastic piece which goes across the nipple on the inside, use a small knife and remove or a drill bit, as who wants to restrict any air pressure
A good idea is to fill up the void near on the outside nipple with electrical tape so its sits firmly, although its not necessary if done carefully.
I cut the barrel approx 14 inches.
Now coincidently .5" aluminium tube fits nicely down the conduit effectively sleeving the barrel. You don't need to do this if you are only using as a nerf gun only, I decided to make mine into a supa splat gun and/or a spud gun as well.  :boogie:
Cut the aluminium tube so it extends about 3" out from the conduit and secure with gaffa tape.
Splat Balls look like this and are available from any disreputable toy store or online,

NB if I could have brought paint balls I would have left the barrel a larger dia  but they wont send to Tas, hence I sleeved it.
Now the serious stuff, becareful with the damn thing, if you give it 20 pumps it will send a nerf dart out of sight I kid you not, if you hit someone with it at close range it will HURT!!
If you make for the kids then supervise them, if they are anything like their father they will probably work out other things fit down the barrel as well as nerf darts or splat balls.
Too use the splat balls I found that if you use a bit of tissue a wad you get a better seal and they wont fall out the end.
I did test mine out by dropping an old 44 mag shell down the barrel and firing it at the side of a cardboard box in my work shop it proceeded to go through both side of the boxes and come back off the wall and nearly taking my head off.
That said they would be suitable for a bit of fun at a camp-site where the kids or big kids as the case maybe cant use a real gun, can put up a couple targets old cans etc and let em have a bit of fun.
Picture of one below before sleeve is put into place by gaffa tape

PS I have managed to paint three neighbourhood cats so far  ;D

No rail?  Where does the Red Dot go?   ;D ;D ;D

All that will be outlawed if anyone notices.

Good job and ingenuity.

Good ingenuity, but why not just buy a paint ball gun?

Paint Ball guns don't take the other ammo this one does either.

Let me get this straight. You can own firearms but not a paintball gun? What kind of fuckwits are you and your neighbors electing? I'll mail you a torch and pitchfork free of charge. You supply your own rope. ;D

Thats true mate. I have even shot a 30 cal sling shot ammo out of it after using some paper wadding, no way would I want to get hit by it. I have no illusions it could cause serious damage. (puncture cans, break bottles seriously dent galv iron etc)
For the record Cats = 0 Splat Gun = 3 and amazingly they dont stick around to see what paints them funny colurs.
A mate of mine has already modded his and it now attaches to a compressor or portable gas cylinder like a soda stream. OMFG does that thing go off LOL
For the most part 15-20 pumps is quite enough oomph.

It's to much like realistic training.
This is where the "violent video game" f*ckwits will lead you.
