Ammo donations for youth shooting programs
« on: March 25, 2013, 10:44:44 AM »
A few weeks ago on Gun Talk, Tom Gresham had an 8 year old boy call in saying he had some standard velocity .22 but was unable to find any high velocity .22 to start up some hunting.  Tom didn't have any answers for him, but some listeners mailed him some ammo after contacting Tom for the boy's address.  Last week, Tom received some .22 rounds and this letter from the boy...

Tom read this letter on the air and then encouraged his listeners to donate some .22 ammo to youth shooting programs so young boys and girls can shoot this summer.

Tom is right.  These young boys and girls are the future of our culture and deserve our support.  Just like supporting the NRA, I consider them an investment.  Just like many of you, I'm sitting on some .22.  I certainly have enough to get through the current ammo shortage which will likely last through the summer and affect these youth programs.  But I'm confident the shortage will eventually subside and it's not going to kill me if I part with some right now.

So, I've decided to follow Tom's encouragement and donate a brick of .22 so boys and girls can shoot this season.  I'm just writing this to encourage the rest of you to consider doing the same.  You know you have a stash of .22 and some of it can be going through the barrel of a kid's rifle instead of just sitting on your shelf, right?  ;)  Even if it's just 50 or a 100 rounds, I'm sure it would be appreciated.  Thanks for considering this.

P.S. Now I have a problem.  My local seasonal range doesn't open for a month and they're so small that they don't really have any youth shooting programs.  If anyone has a suggestion for a group to donate my ammo to, let me know.  Otherwise, I'll just give it to the closest Appleseed group about 80 miles away. Update: It's spoken for.  Donated a brick to one of the statewide Appleseed coordinators.
