Yeah, if you think about the schedule LaPierre keeps, most of us would be tired too.

If you were LaPierre, you’d be ‘a tired old white guy,’ too

Twenty-four hours after POLITICO reporter Lois Romano sneered on MSNBC that National Rifle Association Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre looked like “a tired…old white guy that’s clinging on to something of the past,” her remarks are getting reaction from a couple of media critic websites and the Tea Party.

LaPierre, who has been to the Evergreen State on several occasions, has every right to be a “tired old white guy” for maintaining a schedule that might deplete lesser men. He’s been out front in the battle against gun bans and other gun control legislation, traveling around the country, testifying on Capitol Hill last month and, most recently, appearing on Meet the Press Sunday, responding to New York billionaire Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s $12 million gun control campaign.
--------------------------------

LaPierre’s response to the Bloomberg advertising campaign on Sunday was blunt. He suggested many Americans are tired…of Bloomberg.

“They don’t want him in their restaurants,” he said, “they don’t want him in their homes, they don’t want him telling them what food to eat, they sure don’t want him telling them what self-defense firearms to own…”

With the NRA membership rolls hitting a reported five million over the past three months, it’s a cinch they are not ready to take self-defense advice from Vice President Joe Biden, either.

------------------------------------

Many people are concentrating on the “tired old white guy” part of Romano’s comment, and ignoring the other part of her jab, that business about “clinging on to something of the past.” That sounds suspiciously like Barack Obama’s insult about middle-Americans who “cling to their guns” and their religion.

This column has known LaPierre for the better part of 30 years. For Ms. Romano’s edification, what he is “clinging to” is the Second Amendment, and its affirmation that the right to keep and bear arms is as important today as it was when a lot of other “tired old white guys” created a nation with broad civil rights and liberties; the kind of liberties defended over the years around the world by a lot of other tired old guys of all colors, just so she could shoot off her mouth on cable television.

"I expect perdition, I always have. I keep this building at my back, and several guns handy, in case perdition arrives in a form that's susceptible to bullets. I expect it will come in the disease form, though. I'm susceptible to diseases, and you can't shoot a damned disease." ~ Judge Roy Bean, Streets of Laredo

For the Patriots of this country, the Constitution is second only to the Bible for most. For those who love this country, but do not share my personal beliefs, it is their Bible. To them nothing comes before the Constitution of these United States of America. For this we are all labeled potential terrorists. ~ Dean Garrison

Past will become future again. I am not one who believes it will get so bad I'll ever have to pick upa  gun against .gov. But, I do think its a fantasy to think that it will never happen here. And then when I'm dead of old age and Ms. Romano's granchildren are in the streets, do think they'll thank her for having slingshots rather than whatever the cops are using? I think even she knows the answer.

We keep .gov in check by having the power to keep it in check. Its for no other reason.
