Amazing images!
« on: April 01, 2013, 01:55:59 AM »
This is some time lapse footage of earth from the international space station. It shows you what a beautiful, small and fragile place we live on. Wow, just wow. Definitely worth a look.

Yup I'm with Quaker on this - good video to watch.
Really liked the aurora and lightning shots.

Always a sucker for (real) space pictures/videos.

To each his own belief... but for me the amazing beauty and magnificence of our earthly home is not the result of random chance.  Thanks for the post.

The volcano at 0:44, and the Aurora and lightning were outstanding!

It all looked like scenes from Sci-Fi movies....and beautiful.

I wonder how they get any work done up there...aside from wiping nose-spots off the view ports....

And we need to get busy checking out the neighborhood.

Telescope data suggests billions of Earth like planets "near" us.

That's because recent data from NASA's Kepler space telescope suggests that billions of Earth-like planets are much closer than ever before imagined.

They're truly amazing pictures.   I'm a sucker for space photos, too.

But don't be fooled, there's nothing fragile about what you're seeing.   Those cute, soft, white flashes of light represent about 1 billion (or more) joules of energy.   Enough, not just to kill you but, to vaporize your whole existence.    Earth is a hard and hardy planet.  Man on the other hand is fragile and to mother nature, disposable.

Cool video, indeed.

For all of you who enjoy space photos, you should check out APOD, or Astronomy Picture Of the Day  http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/astropix.html  Like the name says, it's a new picture every day.

Some of them are a bit dull, but others are incredible.
Bravery and stupidity are often synonymous.  So are cowardice and intelligence.

"We Americans have been a rebellious band of freedom loving vagabonds from the very beginning. Our freedom from the crown and tyranny would not exist had it not been for the gun. That's a tradition we like to hold on to.  The same can't be said for the rest of you 'Subjects of the Queen'."--said to a Canadian friend who just doesn't get it.

Don't tell that to Al Gore. He thinks the whole planet would collapse without him.

The Aurora was as vivid as a painters pallet while I was stationed in Iceland.  Quite a sight...
