Need opinion of Mr. Michael Bane on HK USP45
« on: April 10, 2007, 12:32:29 PM »
Hi all.:)
New member from Europe checking in.
First of, let me just say that you, Mr. Michael Bane, have a GREAT site sir!!!!
I enjoy watching new videos that are really interesting.
IMO these videos are both informative and fun to watch.
I would like to hear opinion of Mr. Michael Bane on H&K USP45 pistol. Of course, all others are more than welcome to give their opinions as well.
I ordered this pistol, and while I'm waiting (time goes by really slow), I would like to hear opinions on this piece.:)
Also I know that Mr. Michael Bane has a great respect toward Sig pistols (especially P-220), so I would also like to hear comparison between these two.
Any and all replies will be much appreciated.
Thanks for your time.
Keep up the good work sir.
All the best.:)

You may notice due to my avatar, I am a little biased. That being said I thought I'd offer you my opinions on the USP45.

I think, overall, it is a wonderful pistol. It is extremely reliable. In 9 years of ownership, I don't think that I've ever had a single malfunction with it. It is also a very accurate gun. With the long sight radius I can quickly shoot out to 10 meters or more, with some aiming, shooting out to 30 meters is not a problem.

The downsides of this pistol are, is that it is a large gun. People with small hands do not handle it well with the grip size. It is not very useful as a concealed carry gun unless the weather is cold and you can wear heavy clothing. Also, at least in the USA the parts and magazines are expensive to buy for this gun.

Personally, I don't think you'll regret buy this pistol.

I'm glad PonyExpress ponied up! Over the years, I have blown hot and cold on the H-Ks. I always felt the bore axis set a little higher than it should, whihc made the pistols snappy in my hands.

And as Pony has noted, the .45 is a big pistol (I had a similar problem with the CZ IPSC .40).

However, at an NSSF Media Seminar, we had so many particupants I had to jump in and help instruct. Gunsmith & instructor Bruce Gray loaned me one of his USP .40s for the day, and I have to say it was an absolute sweetheart to instruct with. Everybody I worked with loved the gun, and I came away thinking it was a darn good pistol.

You can't go wrong with it!

So what'd Bruce have to do to get it back from you, Michael? ;D

I'll agree with Michael on the bore axis as well. It's difficult to get a high grip on the pistol but I find that to more of a problem with competition shooting than say self defense or simply punching holes in paper.
