Quote
During a speech before the National Rifle Association convention Friday afternoon in Louisville, Kentucky, former Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee — who has endorsed presumptive GOP nominee John McCain — joked that an unexpected offstage noise was Democrat Barack Obama looking to avoid a gunman.

“That was Barack Obama, he just tripped off a chair, he’s getting ready to speak,” said the former Arkansas governor, to audience laughter. “Somebody aimed a gun at him and he dove for the floor.”

My two cents, dumb to joke about pointing guns.

That's not going to score any points with anybody.
Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. They are the American people's liberty teeth and keystone under independence. The very atmosphere of firearms everywhere restrains evil interference. - George Washington

What a dumbass.  Sorry, but the language seems called for.

That just makes me angry at Huckabee.  I've defended him in the past (including on this site), but that kind of BS means that you are not ready for prime time.  Next.

Politicians still don't get it.

If they STOP trying to appease and make funny, a protocol amongst gun owners that goes to the core of the fundamentals that our fathers and grandfathers taught us about firearm safety, it MIGHT be funny.

BUT its not......

What's Rule #1.?
Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."
Col. Jeff Cooper.

Update: Huckabee apologizes for Obama gun joke

Quote
"I made an off hand remark that was in no way intended to offend or disparage Sen. Obama," the statement said. "I apologize that my comments were offensive. That was never my intention."

Offend Obama?  The _______ (fill in the blank) hillbilly disparaged gun owners!

Who invited this guy to the NRA?
(Answer:  It's the same guy that says your annual membership is due every three months.)

With his humor, he should be doing Star Trek conventions at some Holiday Inn.  No … that’s a bad idea too.  He would piss off Trekies and they might go medieval on us with a blow torch and Spock’s death grip.

If we were sitting in a bar somewhere with Huckabee and he said that, we'd all probably laugh. But not at the NRA convention. That sort of turned the whole thing bad. Wonder how many more votes Obama will get from that remark. I'm sure he'll use it in some anti-gun campaign in the future. I can hear him now "And some of our distinguished politicians think the whole gun issue is a big joke they can make at NRA conventions. That just goes to show how serious some lawmakers are about crime and gun control"
