John McCain Interview
« on: May 17, 2008, 07:06:43 PM »
I just finished an interesting interview with John McCain in "The American Rifleman" (NRA magazine).  He (IMHO) says all the right things - but can we trust him?  I don't have the knowledge to be able to post it - maybe someone can for us, maybe even someone at the NRA convention if they can get a hold of it.

I also have and read the article and I'm sure an NRA web link will be available to post. He (like all politicians), is going to say what a specific group wants to hear.

He is a better choice than any other Pres. Candidate. BUT, if Democrat Majority grows larger in the House of Rep. and Senate, like if Harry Reid gets 60 of his Dems elected, or good ol San Fran Nan Pelosi get a "Overriding" majority, McCain can veto till he's blue in the face, and it won't matter.

THIS is a bigger problem down the road,...
Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."

Just finished reading the article. One thing I didn't know was he was the only one of the three candidates to date that had signed the bipartisan amicus brief. Of course I don't know why that surprise me. I really don't know what to say. Were these questions give to him before hand so he couldn't screw up the answers? I like others here have been kicked in head to many time over the years for the people we have voted for to believe anything I hear. And thats in itself is quite sad. I guess I'll have to wait for the total package as far as his running mate goes before I get all worked up again. But twyacht is right. There are bigger problems down the road.

I agree.  He's the only choice.

Agreed.  No matter what the outcome of Heller is, our RKBA will be in trouble if Obama is elected.  As to working with the Democratic Congress, that could change too.  This Congress has the lowest approval rating in history.

Did you notice the book on the coffee table and how it was positioned for the camera?

I did notice the book too.   A blantant play at the people that say he isn't conservative enough.

Sad thing about Congress is that most of them will stay in office.  While most of the Democratic leadership is a bunch of crap some of the rookies haven't been bullied to the point of voting whaichever way Pelosi and Clinton want them too, which is a good thing.  I noticed the NRA-ILA's grades show more than a few Dems with A ratings while thier GOP opponents had lower grades.  Yes that paty is more anti-gun but not all of them VOTE that way.  I saw an article somewhere (I think here or Fox) about how a good portion of the Dems know that the 2nd Amendment votes are what gets them elected and they don't want to undermine that.  Our local State Rep is a Dem but very pro-gun.  He also realizes that at least this county is very Republican but holds RKBA even higher than party affiliation.

Good points.
I think a poll that I saw a few months back said that 47-48% of registered Democrats own guns.  With that, they speculated that anti gun legislation could be too hard at this time.  All the same, need to watch out for the anti-gun politicians that will try to erode our ability to shoot via micro-stamping, ammo registration and various other ineffective measures.
