I finally caught my unicorn!
« on: May 29, 2013, 11:37:27 PM »
Got a 9mm Kel-tec sub 2k that accepts Glock 19 mags last Friday. Not only that, I got it at a fair (non-gauged) price. I haven't gotten a chance to try it out yet, but I look forward to putting it in the lineup. It's already part of the family: the little ugly duckling that it is.

Give us a range report. I always thought those would make a great little truck/boat gun with the 33 round Glock mags.

Range report for my Kel-tec sub2K

Finally got to shoot it. It's kind of a mixed report.

Went to the range Saturday hoping to run 50 rounds through it without a hitch. I wasn't so lucky. New gun, new mags, and different ammo than I usually shoot. Shooting PMC bronze, it had a tendency to FTE the last round in a magazine. I used the factory Glock 10 rounder that came with it, a pro mag 31 rounder, and a Glock 33 rounder. With the pro mag, I had two FTF's. That's when I tried the factory extended. Today, I took 100 rounds of Federal fmj out of inventory (  :'( ) to shoot. I loaded it in Gloc10k 10, 15, & 33 round mags. I also loaded the last 10 rounds in the pro mag. I ran through the 10, 15, and one 33 round mags without a problem. The last round of the second Glock 33 round mag was a FTE. The 10 rounds in the pro mag ran flawlessly. I also had one split casing during the shoot. I'm not sure I trust the pro mag yet, but I'm a lot more confident I'm the gun after today.

Any suggestions about fixing the FTE's? I probably need to run some more rounds through out, but ammo availability and budget aren't helping that at the moment.

Overall, the gun shoots wonderfully. It's reasonably accurate at 50 yards (reliability issues had me more concerned than accuracy). At 25 yards, I was consistently launching coke cans/bottles 20ish feet I'm the air. I didn't try to stretch it out to 100 yards either time because I mainly wanted to get it reliable.

Any suggestions are welcome, but I think it still has lots of potential.

Go to the kel tec website in the discussion section. They have a ton of hard core fan boys who are gurus on that sort of thing (though some seem a bit dremel happy). They should let you know what the deal is, it might just be break in. Ask them all the techno geek stuff like how much lube etc. and you'll get answers. I don't have the url, but google it. Also, if there is an issue contact kel tec. I'm not their number one fan, but when I owned one of their pistols, I was more than impressed with their CS. When I called about an FTE issue the operator didn't transfer me to a CS rep, she put me through to a tech. He told me what to do (put another 100 rounds through it then call back, and it worked flawlessly). But he said if that didn't they'd take it back and fix it or send me a new one. You can't beat that with a stick. Glad to hear you're having some success with the rifle.
