What will this do to the BSA and Scouting?
« on: June 01, 2013, 01:50:58 PM »
From the statement:
Quote
Today, following this review, the most comprehensive listening exercise in Scouting's history the approximate 1,400 voting members of the Boy Scouts of America's National Council approved a resolution to remove the restriction denying membership to youth on the basis of sexual orientation alone. The resolution also reinforces that Scouting is a youth program, and any sexual conduct, whether heterosexual or homosexual, by youth of Scouting age is contrary to the virtues of Scouting. A change to the current membership policy for adult leaders was not under consideration; thus, the policy for adults remains in place. The BSA thanks all the national voting members who participated in this process and vote.

This policy change is effective Jan. 1, 2014, allowing the Boy Scouts of America the transition time needed to communicate and implement this policy to its approximately 116,000 Scouting units.

Just for reference, here is the Scout Oath:

On my honor I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country
and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong,
mentally awake, and morally straight.

The inconsistency is obvious... on the one hand the BSA openly embraces a particular lifestyle while at the same time requiring the kids to recite an oath that indirectly forbids that lifestyle.  OK, I understand the National Council took a vote and it passed.  But now how does the organization reconcile these opposing views in an honest manner?

Really?

"Do my duty to God" means your God? The way you believe in him? I guess "morally straight" means the latest slang for heterosexual not just a synonym for upstanding?

The BS Oath, as well as Gov't Schools eliminating the Pledge, ALL Religion, all sense of winners and losers,....Hell, THEY BANNED DODGEBALL FOR THE LOVE OF PETE!!!!!!

Anyway, all this, by design, has been watered down, to allow a Progressive/Liberal Indoctrination into ALL aspects of youth groups.

This goes for the Girl Scouts also, they are being forced to sell decades old land, used for Summer Camp, because GSA membership is down and they can't afford it.

The girls want Twitter/Facebook, Justin Beiber, than anything the GSA has to offer, same with the BSA.....

BHO said he would fundamentally change this country......He had decades of Liberal policies assisting him...

Yet,,.....Shows like Duck Dynasty, where family, dysfunctional, 1/2 crazy, and OMG! Southern, is smoking the ratings....With Family, Prayer, Unity, and Pride/Love of Country and yes,.....guns....OMG!!!!

There is, and ever will be, a large percentage of this country that gets it. We maybe a minority in the coming years, but we have taught our kids well. (My 18 year old son is a prime example),....We Love Our Country, We Love Our Guns, We Love Our Constitution, and We Are Not Going Away. OBTW, "they" can't change it, take it, or force me to change my beliefs, and if they try, than I urge them to re-read American History. Especially the part where we decided tyranny was the final straw and fought back.

Battle Of Athens comes to mind.

It all starts locally.

Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."

If you re-read the original post, you should find that I asked about the inconsistent and seemingly opposing viewpoints that this vote represents.  I didn't ask about anyone's view of religion or sexuality.  The BSA's inconsistency in membership policy is even more evident in its ban on gay leadership.  It's OK to accept gay kids but reject gay leaders?  That's inconsistent.

The governing body of the BSA can vote to modify their policies to suit any social, political, or financial agenda they desire.  And parents will decide whether or not the BSA's policies can be reconciled with their family's beliefs and moral code.  For this particular topic, the question is not one of justification but rather one of effect.

TAB could be right about this new rule having little effect.  An ever-growing segment of our Nation worships rhapsodically at the altar of Relativism and hymns praising the virtues of Moral Pluralism echo throughout our increasingly vacant sanctuaries.  Our lust for inclusiveness and unquestioned multiculturalism obscures the common sense that once guided the national dialogue.

We need to ask ourselves... How's that been working out?

We need to ask ourselves... How's that been working out?

Since the Great Society, and everything that came after it, inch by inch, nibbling away at the core of this Nation, has worked at the moral degradation of this country.

Not in massive policy directives, or sweeping gov't policy,,...It has been a culture war, slowly taking away what just a few years ago, most would find just wrong.

Too many examples to cite, but as an example, MTV doesn't play music videos anymore,....they are a reality show network with shows like 16 And Pregnant...

As Tom B posted, all part of the plan....

Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. The next step in moral decay will be that pedophiles will stop being Child molesting perverts and will become "practitioners of an alternative lifestyle".

Crap, if the BSA had just quietly changed the rule there would be no controversy.  Gay kids don't want to be Boy Scouts. They want to be something else. So its a non problem. Gay boys want to be Girl Scouts, let the GSA deal with it.
