New SR22 Ruger
« on: June 02, 2013, 06:06:50 PM »
my family and I took afternoon trip to town , had lunch and went running errands , etc

We went to a newer gun shop that we had never been to - within minutes I felt that unfortunate feeling that you get when you feel as though your being a pain in the butt when you ask to see something in the case . I had brought my sweetie because this purchase was as much for her as myself.  We left and went to a shop that we had purchased a Ruger 10/22 takedown last winter ( my Christmas present !) .
We looked at several pistols , and ended up walking out of there with a SR-22 with threaded barrel  ;D

We both really liked it , and it is added to our small collection of 22s .
For anybody that has not looked at this pistol , I would suggest giving it a look . Initial observations
1. Light and small , easy controls ,
2. very nice sights for a smaller 22 .
3. threaded barrel 22 - comes with a little wrench that you remove a plain bushing , and install a threaded barrel bushing on the end of the barrel
3a - the threaded adapter bushing is black and barrel is stainless ?
3b - with threaded adapter threads are exposed and Ruger did not include and I could not find one at shop ruger.com
       3c - what thread pitch ? Looks like 1/2-28 ??
4. Came with a nice little zip Ruger pistol rug , but came in a plain white box - no plastic case ? Kind of an important thing for me. I like the grey plastic cases for storage purposes
5. Came with new magazine floor plates that have a little pinky extension - I switched to these right away
6. Also came with a new grip - but sweetie likes the one that it came with and so do I

I stripped it down , cleaned and gave it a CLP treatment

We cannot wait to shoot her

Nice. I want one. I sold a Browning challenger, but I've always wanted a Ruger. They are a very pretty and very accurate pistol. If you don't mind, what did that set you back? I look forward to a range report.

The SR22 threaded barrel was $360 out the door for pistol and 80 rounds of 22 hollow points , 2 boxes of American eagle (40 rds each)
The non threaded barrel was about $20 less - but I have always wanted something with a threaded barrel

The Browning challenger was more of a target style pistol wasn't it?   If yes - perhaps you  might look at a Ruger MK III variation. My other pic are my favorite 22s

The SR22 is a small 3.5" barrel , polymer frame - weighs about 16.5oz . For me it is going to be a plinker & trainer for my wife and twin girls ( I'm looking forward to taking it to the range maybe as soon as tomorrow

I am sure you will like it.  Mine eats anything (unlike the gun it looks like).  I have fed it a whole box of Remington subsonics and all went pop (ok bang).  They all cycled as well.  My 11 year old liked it until she shot the SR45. She likes to make a big boom.

Enjoy
