Every day since  the beginning of June I've been at the NRA's Whittington Center teaching young Americans the principal that founded our country - rifle marksmanship!

We had the Saddle Butte Machine gun shoot last month and I did the same thing there that I did this weekend. I manned a booth for Oregon Firearms Federation recruiting members and selling swag/raffle tickets.

Looks like fun.  What was the going rate for 50 cal?  IIRC it was about $6/round for 50 and $1.50 for 30 cal for the crew serves and the rest of the magazine fed stuff was $15-30 a mag.

I went to a Cowboy Action shoot and wasted 140 rounds of .38 and 50 rounds of 12 gauge and had fun doing it.

Not nearly as neat as a machine gun shoot, I went to the GA IDPA members match.  Not the GA Championships, but an 8 stage (lunch included) warmup before the real state match.  My first outdoor IDPA.   HOT - HUMID - NO BREEZE.   I about died.   I learned to shoot first on each stage because I would rested.  (We had a small squad and had to wait on each stage for the other squad to clear out.

Scored third from the bottom out of 122 shooters.   (I was shooting SSR in my defense....and I'm almost 65...and did I mention how stifling the weather was?)   Not only did the weather zap me but I just wasn't on my A game.

Two highlights were getting 2 "0's" on each of the two movers.   These suckers only appeared for about 3 seconds and were only visible for 6 feet.   Oh, and I shot them while I was moving, too.  The other highlight was dropping only 3 points on the short stage shoot at 15 yds.  The target was partially covered with a no-shoot.   We shot out of cars, around cars, in a shoot house, prone, kineeling and sitting.

Here's a couple of pictures:  First simple falling plates dressed in Iron Maiden t-shirts.  There's an 8" plate under the shirt.

Then there was the gas station attempted car jacking.   Had to shoot bad guys left and right then go prone to get bad guys on the other side of the car.
