Leupold VX-22 3x9 40 mm. Any Good?

I am in the market for a scope. I know the general reputation of Leupold, but not the specific models. Even a quality line has to have a few clinkers. Is this one of them? It going now for $135, which sounds like a steal. It'll probably go up to $200 before the auction is over. For something to slap on my AR and or 10/22 is it a buy or would I be better off with a new higher end Bushnell Dawn to Dusk or something similar?

I can't speak for that particular scope, but I do have a question and general assessment.

Does it have any more Roman numerals after the VX such as VXI, VXII, VXIII, etc.? The higher the Roman numerals the higher up the model lineage it is. I forget how many numbers it goes to (I think it's five at most (V) but could easily be wrong); anything III or up would probably be worth that price. You might want to do a quick retail price check to confirm.

The differences between lower end and higher end Leupold differ significantly.

In my humble opinion an excellent rimfire scope is the Weaver 3-9x32 with an adjustable objective.

I just bought a VX 2 3x9 for my Ruger American. Haven't had a chance to use it yet but it is very highly rated and it looks great to my old eyes. In optics you get what you pay for in terms of quality components and design execution. I have always like Leupold and this looked like a classic hunting scope.

Read a guys comments that made sense to me: You can now buy a 1 MOA gun for $500 so if you want the whole package to live up to that performance then spend more money on the optics so you can shoot the gun up to its capabilities.

A $125 scope is probably OK if you don't plan to take it in the woods, bang it around, get it wet, etc. Durability and repeatability costs a little more.

I still can't bring myself to put a $1000 scope on an $800 AR though even if they do look beautiful!

If you gonna buy a leupy vx1 you may as well get the cheaper Redfield Revolutions they are the same damn thing.
I dont have a AR but on my .223 I have a Sightron 4.5-14x50 so I can make use of its range.
If your just shooting 100m or less I would be happy with a 2-7 power as it will be much lighter than the 3-9 power
In fact I have a 2-7x 33 redfield on my 39a and its a great little scope.
