This is an audio of a question asked by a student at Alabama, of the Sheriff, running for reelection last October..
The Sheriff's reasoning for not liking OC is a little annoying, and quite telling..
That's not a good reason.. 
(Some things seem to never change.. I wonder of Paula Deen could get a job with this guy.. Not that she'd want it..)

Cliff notes? Negros might carry guns openly, people will the call po po and it will be a thing, so carry the damn thing concealed. Impolitic, but honest, and not bad advice.

 I have mixed feelings about open carry and wouldn't do it for the same reason I don't wear my tee shirts in public that have Gun related print on them. Someone with criminal intent will probably take out the potentially armed person before the sheep! I like open carry laws because if I accidently expose my carry gun it is not an issue but I could imagine young thugs using it to intimidate the good folk.

Open carry is just asking for trouble. There are a lot of things that are legal but not very smart. Wearing a KKK T shirt to the million man march may be legal but........  I'm not comparing the two, but having some liberal fat lady screaming " HE's GOT A GUN" will not make for a very pleasant afternoon.

Correct, however..
While I'm not a OC guy, (I think it's an idiot magnet), injecting race into a reason to not carry is the same attitude that sustained the "May Issue" law that we JUST BEAT!!
Old habits die hard, but DIE, THEY MUST!!

The culture has become so anti-gun that legally carrying it openly causes a commotion.  So the best course of action is to take the path of least resistance?

Come on guys, if we want our country back we have to be willing to risk something.  The culture won't change if we continue to hide who we are, just 100 million gun owners afraid of what people might think of us?

I don't carry open because I don't have the opportunity very often and my life is structure around carrying concealed BUT I am going to make an effort to carry openly more often-with my lawyers business card in my pocket

Actually it depends on where you are. When I lived in North Dakota, (and worked in the oil field) open carry was not a problem. Of course this was 50 years ago but I suspect it still isn't a problem there. Here in Northern Virginia it is a different situation. One lady wrote to the local on-line newspaper that a man with a gun on his hip came into the coffee shop where her and her friends were having a weekly knitting-get-together. He said hello to the ladies and she wrote that they were all terrified. This sparked a responce from all the libs ( we have many here) about the evils of firearms. This lady was also the one that organized the protest ( all 16 people) at the NRA headquarters near here. She would be the fat liberal lady screaming "HE's GOT A GUN!!!"

I know the draw backs to open carry, and have never done so, but     I  have a Dream    that one day, firearms ownership, possession and carry will be accepted as part of our heritage, one of our rights as free and responsible citizens.  It should be seen as an accepted and welcome responsibility choice of those who are willing to protect their society.

That won't happen until the propagandized portion of the population are driven to change.  Like other groups working for a change in social attitudes, perhaps an more "in your face" approach will do some good....after some rocky roads for a bit.

And "in your face" should never be aggressive in this endeavor, simple open carry will move the issue.

Maybe someday.
