Took the trip despite warnings that the National Match folks had pretty much cleaned them out. 900 mile round trip an a chunk of change but I'm pretty thrilled. Was the third person in the door yesterday morning and got the only service grade special they had in the store. Walked out with an HRA SGS with an LMR barrel, 200 rounds of Hornady ammo, a box of 25 clips and the best damn wife in the world.

Outstanding!!!  :D
"I expect perdition, I always have. I keep this building at my back, and several guns handy, in case perdition arrives in a form that's susceptible to bullets. I expect it will come in the disease form, though. I'm susceptible to diseases, and you can't shoot a damned disease." ~ Judge Roy Bean, Streets of Laredo

For the Patriots of this country, the Constitution is second only to the Bible for most. For those who love this country, but do not share my personal beliefs, it is their Bible. To them nothing comes before the Constitution of these United States of America. For this we are all labeled potential terrorists. ~ Dean Garrison

Nobody with any sense wants to look at me...but I was holding a nice rifle! As to pictures of the wife, she's not a fan and if she were to find out I put some out on the Internet. Well; she may best ever but she also has access to weapons and knows where I sleep. Just 'cause I look dumb doesn't mean that I am dumb!

VERY nice looking rifle!
I don't know what the different grades are and I'm too lazy to look them up but that rifle looks damned fine.

1Buckshot, I'm sure a bunch of the guys here can relate!
kmitch-
Short version:
Rack Grade- Fair condition, all original
Field Grade- Fair to Good, all original
Service Grade- Good to Very Good, all original parts may have new wood
Service Grade Special- Very Good to Excellent, all original parts will have new wood
Correct Grade- Very Good to Excellent, all original
Collector Grade- Excellent, all original
CMP Special- Excellent, original receiver, new barrel, may have other new parts and new CMP wood
Additional things people look for are manufacturer, makers of barrels, accessories(grenade launcher mounts) and C/D(sniper) types.

My SGS is all original parts, likely rebarreled by military armourers in the late 50's early 60's with an LMR barrel(which I'm told is a good thing) with new CMP wood. Both the muzzle and throat gauged 1+ which puts it in the excellent range. I went down hoping to find an SGS "shooter". The fact I walked out with the only SGS they had and in that condition was awesome!

Thank you for the info. Of the firearm bugs that have bitten me I don't know why CMP wasn't one of them.
