« on: August 22, 2013, 01:15:37 PM »
Latly I have been more and more intrested in doing small turnings.  I am looking for recomendations for a small lathe.
I always break all the clay pigeons,  some times its even with lead.

http://www.woodcraft.com/search2/search.aspx?query=pen%20lathe

This is where everybody in my neighborhood has gone for their new interest in pen and pen like items.  As you go through you will find everything you need, and Woodcraft is quality.

Tab, wood or metal?   I had a Unimat on which I turned both.  Probably not the best for either.  I suggest a JET for wood.  Someone mor experienced with metal might suggest something...maybe Mericet AKA Neil.

Wood, I have a one way 24 36  which is huge and something I really enjoy using.  I am looking for something that is small, bench top, a pool Q lathe would work too.  Basicly I want to make small stuff like pens, rings, xmas tree decorations.  I deally I want something I can sit down at and make shaving.

Then, I say look at the Jet.  They come in different sizes to match the job.

This may be to small but they have a very good reputation among model builders.

Wonder you dont need a tax stamp for them being you can make a suppressor with one.

you can make a suppressor out of a 2 liter bottle and some poly fill.  It will actually work great, for 1 shot.

Apparently oil filters work for more than one shot.. so they say lol
When used with the appropriate adapter

THats just a threaded bushing, any lathe operator could make one very quickly and easily with only a few cents worth of scrap steel.  Hell you could make one on a drill press if you had the right drill / tap/ dye size.
