Nikon Pro Staff
« on: September 03, 2013, 11:23:43 AM »
Well, you just can't trust a brand no more it seems. Bought a Nikon Pro Staff 3-9x40. Guess where the dang thing is made? The Philippines! This dang near makes me as mad as the time I bought a Bianchi holster stamped Made in Mexico!

Haven't used it yet, I mounted it on my Mini 14. The Tasco I had on there didn't last but two range sessions before the cross hair actually broke! We will see how well this Philippines made Nikon will work. (For anyone that does not know, Nikon has always been made in Japan, and they have always been, IMHO, very good optics.)

Where the heck did you think a Japanese company did their manufacturing ?
Other than Japan I mean .
I don't know why you're complaining though, it would have cost more if it had to be shipped the extra distance from Japan.

Not really complaining per se.  I guess it is just you can't take nothing for granted no more.  Maybe Nikon being made in the Philippines aint that big a deal, but Bianchi being made in Mexico is a travesty!  Not to mention Winchester lever guns made in Japan, .22s in Russia, and shotguns in Turkey!

All the Nikon scopes including the regular Monarch line (and the M-xxx and P-xxx) are now made in the Philippines.  Only the Monarch X line is made in Japan.

just curious, what is your issue? Did you want made in USA or do you think these other countries mean poor quality?

I can understand the made in USA thing as I prefer that if I can. I actually like that stuff is made around the world as folks that have jobs are less likely to become terrorists. In fact the terrorists hate the whole globalized economy thing. Anymore, the location of manufacture is a lot less of an indicator of quality than it used to be. Companies go to the contractor with the best/newest manufacturing equipment for high tech. Any more that is usually Asia/Pacific with all the growth there.

We have priced ourselves out of a lot of jobs anymore mainly due to the morass of regulations and liability laws. Hourly wage is much less important of a factor than it used to be. Why build a factory here when it may take you years to get an air permit or you get protested by NIMBYs who don't like the extra traffic!
