Castle Doctrine passed in North Dakota
« on: April 11, 2007, 05:05:04 AM »
http://bismarcktribune.com/articles/2007/04/11/news/state/131742.txtWhile the bill passing the Castle Doctrine in North Dakota wasn't as strong as I would have liked (some really weird restrictions and seams like little change), at least I don't have to retreat in my own dwelling and, God forbid anything happen, anyone defending themselves would be shielded from civil suits,

The only difference with the NY version is the criminal gets the right to shoot you then sue you for not retreating.

The NRA is reporting that Governor Hoeven signed the Castle Doctrine.

The law still reads that there is an obligation to try to escape, but it is a change from duty to try to escape, but it does protect the resident from any wrongful death lawsuits if God forbid the resident has to defend the household from a bad guy.
