I had to go to Indy for training for my new employer. HQ was just outside of downtown, right next to 'the hood'. My hotel was not too far away and pretty close to 'the hood'. I got to my room after day one of training and found that the room had a kitchenette with a full size fridge, so on day two after training, I stopped in a local grocery on the way to the hotel. I was shocked, shocked, i tell you, to find that I was the only white person shopping in that store. I got more looks than a playboy calendar.
Got in line at the checkout, lots of wanna be thug types loitering around the front of the store. I was pleasant with the cashier, making small talk. The wanna be's were saying something about a cracker, I said, crackers are over in aisle 5. It got real quiet. The one I guessed to be thug in chief, said something about being afraid. I looked him in the eye and dead panned the line that is the title of this thread.
Moral of the story? I was stupid! Shoulda asked at HQ about where to shop. I was on a main road, but, once I saw the clientele, I should have left. That's the no back up in me I guess. I made it out alive, unharmed, and with no more confrontation than that described.
Yes, I was armed.
