lead free hunting ammo
« on: October 20, 2013, 11:44:14 PM »
So gov brown signed a law based on crap studys banning lead for hunting in ca, so what options are there( not that i plan on hunting ca any time soon)   i know steel, tungston/bismoth for shot.  What about for buck and slugs?   then there comes center/ rim fire.  I know barns makes copper and some manufactors make 22 in copper.  Does anyone else?   bronze is out for pistols by federal law.
I always break all the clay pigeons,  some times its even with lead.

Frangible ammo doesn't have any lead in it. They make it for rifles and pistols. No alternatives that I know of for slugs and buckshot. There are solid copper pistol bullets too. I haven't seen copper .22s, just copper washed lead.

The manufacturers are too numerous to list.
Go to Midway's site and search "lead free ammo", there is a bunch listed. In stock right now is a different question.
Do a Google search and see the 1.6 million hits.
Remington and Winchester make copper slugs, Federal makes non-lead buckshot among others.

I feel sorry for our brother shooters in CA but in all honesty, they need to move out of that $h!thole of a state and quit supporting it.
I wish the WHOLE firearms industry would do a Ronnie Barrett and quit selling ANYTHING in CA.

Leave it to Kalifornia to ban ammo made out of a naturally-occurring substance because of environmental concerns.  ::)  ::)  ::)  ::)

The liars are here in NH as well.
The Gov recently signed a bill banning lead sinkers under 1 Oz. because Loons have eaten them.
Thing is, they will eat what ever the lead is replaced with as well.
And I doubt the lead is nearly as bad for them as the hook on the end of the line.

After I posted to this thread I remembered that Remington made a copper shotgun slug. I still haven't seen buckshot made of tungsten or bismuth, etc. but I haven't been looking for them either.

For hunting, I would stick with a slug over buckshot most of the time anyway.  I know at least Hevi-Shot makes some lead-free #4 buckshot for coyotes.
