Yes I really do like the pull on the DA/SA trigger and do really enjoy the PT145 and think I'll like it even more as time goes by. I have no problem when it comes to concealing for carry which is nice.. I practice with 230g FMJ's & a few JHP's but carry with all JHP's. I still wonder about penetration though ???
I'm not an expert, and anybody please feel free to jump in if I'm way off base, but it's been my impression that you have more overpenetration problem with a 9mm than with a .45. The velocity of the .45 is slower and the round is bigger. I had read one article that was suggesting that 45 hollowpoints could actually UNDER penetrate. I don't know how valid that suggestion is, but your concerns about over penetration are valid. I don't have the statistics vs hollow point, but I've been using defense loads in the EFMJ- expanding jacket, which doesn't fall under the same legal restrications as HP here in NJ. They flatten out with impact and I can't imaging they would pass through a bad guy and out the window or through the wall.

i've heard that before too, but unless u are firing really horrible reloads i dont htink u will have a problem with .45 as far as under penetration

I don't worry about overpentrating a bad guy in my house as much as I worry missing and shooting through

several walls in my house.  I used to keep a 9mm on my nightstand, but now I keep the 38spl with me at night.

I surmise, right or wrong, that the lower velocity round will do it's job as long as I do mine.

I've considered the .45 as well for the same reason, but fiscal responsibility got the best of me.  ::)

That's what I'm thinking too, except that when it comes to home defense I'll spend the money for the big ol' 45. My wife keeps a 38 when I'm out, but given my choice I go with the 45.

I seriously doubt over penetration is a problem in any round using the newer hollow points and EFMJ . Ball ammo may get you in and out. Im more worried about enough penetration. I wanna get to thet CNS and that good stuff.

I carry on occasion a SW99 as well as my Taurus 145 and I feel that overpenetration is a trait of just about any ball ammo. Heck my FIE Titan II in .32acp penetraites just as much or in some cases more than my .45's. Having a CCH license is a great responsibility and unfortunately the miss is a miss with any caliber and hopefully the ammo you choose whether it be hollow point of frangible does its job and does'nt ricochet or over penetrate barriers. I use Winchester rangers in both but I do not reccomend them if over penetration or barriers are a problem in your everyday carry.
