We already pay a gas tax.  State and Federal.

Maybe it is time to go off-grid.

Progressive (Commie-Lib) Insurance advertises it to save money on your insurance.
I've been seeing a commercial in the last couple of days, one of the satellite Television outfits selling the technology to speak your order for PPV or whatever without pushing a button. I wish I could look at the guy who sees that and says "COOL!" and say "Really? You want your television listening to everything you say, on top of your cell phone tracking your every move and monitoring your non-telephone conversations, too?! Do you feel safer that way?"..
With friends like these, who needs hallucinations!..

Note that it is an expert from the University of Minnesota who says that the people would pay.  Minnesota, the land of 10,000 taxes, or your paycheck is mine  >:(

Just did some driving in Chicago.  Otherwise known as the land of toll roads.  I can remember the past when areas with toll roads had cheaper gas, because they used tolls for the road expenses.  Not in Chicago where the best price we saw was a dime higher than once we crossed into Wisconsin, and then there was Cook County were gas was another thirty cents higher than surrounding counties.

What will it take to stop business and government from nickle and diming us for everything we do and from prying into our activities and habits?  I still have my commercial license, but am thankful that I don't drive anymore.  In cab electronics reporting to DOT and your employer every location, speeds, stops, etc.  Now people think that it is great to give Progressive access to your driving habits???  Top it off that this monitor is plugged into your computer.  How far are we from them being able to tap your OnStar or even control your engine like a governor?

From the link: "This is not just a tax going into a black hole,"

See! It's all good!
Bureaucrats don't do anything except good and wonderful things for us, not to us.   /sarcasm
For libtard yuppies that live in cities this will strike them as good. For someone more rural who needs to drive 10 miles just to get to a store, not so much.

What's the over/under on some butthead with access to the system tracking his exwife, girlfriend, neighbor, etc., etc.  10 minutes?
You can say lots of bad things about pedophiles; but at least they drive slowly past schools.

At least buyers aren't required to use the tracking device.  You can, for now, buy insurance from other sources.  But I'm sure that someone in government is trying to figure a way to create a "free market" in which all insurers will have to use those devices.

Speaking of tracking,  most of the cable and satellite set top boxes report back your viewing choices.  Those companies then sell that data to TV producers as an alternative to Arbitron or Neilson.   Many consider the set-top reports to be a lot more accurate than the survey methods.

Watch too much Outdoor Channel and you could be on "their" list.

There have already been cases where evidence from "EZ Pass" automatic toll systems has been used in divorce cases .

http://www.nbcnews.com/id/20216302/

"E-ZPass is an E-ZPass to go directly to divorce court, because it's an easy way to show you took the off-ramp to adultery," said Jacalyn Barnett, a New York divorce lawyer who has used E-ZPass records a few times.

Lynne Gold-Bikin, a Pennsylvania divorce lawyer, said E-ZPass helped prove a client's husband was being unfaithful: "He claimed he was in a business meeting in Pennsylvania. And I had records to show he went to New Jersey that night."

Generally mounted inside a vehicle's windshield behind the rearview mirror, E-ZPass devices communicate with antennas at toll plazas, automatically deducting money from the motorist's prepaid account.

Of the 12 states in the Northeast and Midwest that are part of the E-ZPass system, agencies in seven states provide electronic toll information in response to court orders in criminal and civil cases, including divorces, according to an Associated Press survey.

In four of the 12 states, including New Jersey and Pennsylvania, highway authorities release E-ZPass records only in criminal cases. West Virginia parkways authority has no policy. (Divorce attorneys in some cases can still obtain toll records from the other spouse rather than a highway agency.)

The Illinois Tollway, which hands over toll records, received more than 30 such subpoenas the first half of this year, with about half coming from civil cases, including divorces, according to Joelle McGinnis, an agency spokeswoman.

The New Jersey Turnpike Authority said it turns down about 30 subpoenas in civil cases every year, about half of them divorces.

Electronic toll records have also proved useful in criminal cases.

They played a role in the murder case against Melanie McGuire, a New Jersey nurse convicted in April of killing her husband and tossing his cut-up remains into the Chesapeake Bay in three matching suitcases in 2004. Prosecutors used toll records to reconstruct her movements.

Davy Levy, a Chicago divorce lawyer for more than 30 years, said toll records from I-Pass (part of the E-ZPass system) are useful in catching a spouse in a lie.

"You bring up the I-Pass records and it destroys credibility," said Levy, who has used such records two or three times for such purposes.

Over the last couple years there have been many law suits where the bigger item has been missed by most.  In the case of Toyotas accelerating suddenly, and the same with a Ford and Chevy the computer from the car was used as evidence.

Did you know that for years manufacturers have used computer information to verify warranty claims.  If you drive carelessly your warranty can be voided, and these boxes record and store acceleration and braking.  It is vague weather they record G force, but it is clear they record efforts and traction and ABS activity.  Also, GM's OnStar is a direct link to computers designed to track.  Even if you do not subscribe, these systems are accessible by OnStar.

Damn you fatbaldguy!  Now I need to go and stock up on tin foil  :'(

I was going to add "Yet!" but you kinda went there yourself, Alf.

Anyone seen the 23and something ads for doing genetic profiling? Everybody all cutsie and happy at finding out details about their DNA they never knew.

That's another one of those "ain't going there" industries which the .gov will probably hack and or simply ask and be given all of your data, ya know, so we can tailor a health plan under bho-care designed just for you. AKA death panel - oh, you have a genetic tendency toward heart disease? No knee replacement for you, you'll be dead soon. And we ain't wasting meds on you either, since it's all genetic. Hey, sucks to be you, but what'cha gonna do about it?
