some things women will never understand...
« on: November 19, 2013, 05:54:29 PM »
so i finally sold the old beast,  an 84 ford bronco xlt.  351 w, c6, had every option except rear window defoger.   had it 11 years.  Lots of memorys, good times at the lake, ski trips, huge rear bench seat *wink*  hell for about 2 weeks i litterly lived in it waiting for a house to close.   blew the front seal of the tranny about 6 months ago.  I wanted to pull the motor and tranny, rebuild them both, tear off the smog crap( no smog check in or )   just don't have the time or the money.   the guy i sold it too($500) was happier then a pig in mud when the wrecker came and got it.   not many of them up here that are not all rusted out.  It was always a ca truck.  I know we had are arguments, and i spent alot of time fixing them...   Good bye old friend  ;(

Good buddy got fired from our employer, went to work outside Red Wing, MN for Prairie Island Nuc Plant, made about 200K in the last eight months....came back last week to start his new full time gig with an '87 F150 with the 351 Windsor motor, about 60K miles.  It's been garaged every winter for nearly it's entire life!  Not a spot of corrosion!

Friggin thing was beautifully cared for...amazing truck...

Lots of steel in those old trucks,  you really can't kill them if you take care of them.  350k+ is easy .  Had a f350  that had over 500k the factory motor and tranny.    i put about 400k of them on it.  I did 3 starters, altneator, intake gasket and a rear seal on the tranny.  Every thing else was consumables( fuilds, belts, hose, brakes)  i used it for work,  it towed either my 8500 lb dump or 5000 lb enclosed trailer atleast 3 days a week for 6 years.  For awhile i was filling up the tank about every 36 hours.  37 gallons.   some dip shit side swiped me and took out the bed, cab, door,  fender, hood and both bumpers.  I would sitll be driving that if that had not happen.

I drive my vehicles until they're almost dead, then I sell them for a little spending cash.  I'll be 38 next week and I've only had 3 vehicles in the last 20 years.  To me, a truck is just a tool to get you from one place to another and to haul your junk in.  It's not a fashion statement, it's not a status symbol, it's not a luxury item.  It's a tool and I treat it as such.  As long as it's roadworthy, reliable, and safe, I'm not getting rid of it.
Bravery and stupidity are often synonymous.  So are cowardice and intelligence.

That's a tradition we like to hold on to.  The same can't be said for the rest of you 'Subjects of the Queen'."--said to a Canadian friend who just doesn't get it.

I'm looking into selling my F350 quad cab.

It's been a hard working ranch truck, had MT tires on it the first few years since I usually had it out in the pastures running fences, hauling water and the like. Lost the tailgate to a loaded 400gallon water tank that broke loose and slid off the gate. Oddly, the straps held, the tailgate bent into a U-shape! I replaced it with a $75 gate a guy in MN was selling so he could put in a fancy bed capper. It's white, says 250, on a black 350. Like I said, a working pickup!  ;D

7.3l Powerstroke, full XLT/Lariat treatment, formerly owned by a guy who owned 3 sale barns in eastern MT. He racked up 72k miles in 8 months and traded it in. Seems he did that all of the time. I got a great truck, and a good deal. I've put nearly 100k on it in a few years.

My mare nibbled the rubber on the driver's door by the bottom of the window. I never replaced it, and I am reminded of that cantankerous old mare every time I see the bites.

So now I'm in KY, no ranch, so I really don't need something this big. But I will miss that truck when it goes.

Run 'em (with love and care) until the wheels fall off...

Then sell 'em to a youngster with a  dream. (That's how I got my first truck.  That's what I did with my last truck...  sigh)

so how many of you were that kid with a dream ?    i know i was  lol   "bought" for free. my 1st truck off a widow that husband passed away.  sat for 6 years,   4 junk yard spares, drained the tank, new battery and drove it away.   i think i pushed it more then i drove.   back when all i cared about was having enough money to pay my insurance and have enough money for gas for both the truck and the boat.    back then $ 5 was enough to pay to get in the lake($1) put gas in the truck and enough gas in the boat to water ski for a couple hours.  I use to tow it to  high school.    $5 will not even start my boat ( my fuel lines hold almost 2 gallons)and sure as hell won't get me in the lake anymore.  Hell i would burn more then that towing the boat to the gas station.  I miss those days.
