Ruger MkIII - crap mags ??
« on: December 15, 2013, 10:05:28 AM »
I bought a Ruger MKIII 'Lite' yesterday that came with 3 magazines but only 1 of them works. The followers of other two stick badly, refusing to push the rounds to the top of the mag. body and/or keep the cartridge at the correct angle for feeding - even after cleaning and spending the night in lube.

Is there any quick well known fix...that I don't know... or should I send them back to Ruger for exchange?
Best Wishes, Mike.

"  - even after cleaning and spending the night in lube. "

BUT - I just spent about 45 mins on each one aggressively moving the button up & down  and it  was surprising how much metal was taken off the mag body. Those buttons are just too tight. followed up with the same process with some graphite, another cleaning, then Frog Lube on the button groove - they are now working better.
Best Wishes, Mike.

Send them back.
It sounds like the mag bodies are bent or bowed.

It may be hard to get replacement mags. Shopruger.com, Midway and Brownell's are all out of Mark II and Mark III mags.

If cleaning doesn't fix them call Ruger for warranty.  Retail and supplies out of the service area are going to be different streams.  Also, if all three are bad I would guess that there was a quality issue for a period of time that they missed in QC.

Well, I have them running fine now but further on-line research suggests that it may be a common problem - mainly due to a change in the button design - so I suspect replacements may have a similar problem.

Thanks for the replies, I like the new site design!

Maybe take them apart and polish them with the dreaded Dremel?  You shouldn't have to do it I know...but it may be easier than sending them back.
