No it's probably true, it is a symptom of the irresponsible conduct of the "The world revolves around me" society at large.
Based on some past experiences I have learned not to be too quick to jump to obvious conclusions especially when those obvious conclusions fit so neatly into a stereotypical agenda presented by "the others".
