Be prepared: Wall Street advisor recommends guns, ammo for protection in collapse

A top financial advisor, worried that Obamacare, the NSA spying scandal and spiraling national debt is increasing the chances for a fiscal and social disaster, is recommending that Americans prepare a “bug-out bag” that includes food, a gun and ammo to help them stay alive.

David John Marotta, a Wall Street expert and financial advisor and Forbes contributor, said in a note to investors, “Firearms are the last item on the list, but they are on the list. There are some terrible people in this world. And you are safer when your trusted neighbors have firearms.”

His memo is part of a series addressing the potential for a “financial apocalypse.” His view, however, is that the problems plaguing the country won't result in armageddon. “There is the possibility of a precipitous decline, although a long and drawn out malaise is much more likely,” said the Charlottesville, Va.-based president of Marotta Wealth Management.

Marotta said that many clients fear an end-of-the-world scenario. He doesn’t agree with that outcome, but does with much of what has people worried.

“I, along with many other economists, agree with many of the concerns expressed in these dire warnings. The growing debt and deficit spending is a tax on those holding dollars. The devaluation in the U.S. dollar risks the dollar's status as the reserve currency of the world. Obamacare was the worst legislation in the past 75 years. Socialism is on the rise and the NSA really is abrogating vast portions of the Constitution. I don't disagree with their concerns,” he wrote.

In his latest note, he said that Americans should have a survival kit to take in case of a financial or natural disaster. It should be filled with items that will help them stay alive for the first 72-hours of a crisis, including firearms.

“A bug-out bag is a good idea depending on where you live even if the emergency is just power outages, earthquakes and hurricanes. And with your preparedness you will be equipped to help others who might be in need,” he wrote. “Be prepared. Especially because it keeps you from being scared.”

"I expect perdition, I always have. I keep this building at my back, and several guns handy, in case perdition arrives in a form that's susceptible to bullets. I expect it will come in the disease form, though. I'm susceptible to diseases, and you can't shoot a damned disease." ~ Judge Roy Bean, Streets of Laredo

For the Patriots of this country, the Constitution is second only to the Bible for most. For those who love this country, but do not share my personal beliefs, it is their Bible. To them nothing comes before the Constitution of these United States of America. For this we are all labeled potential terrorists. ~ Dean Garrison

"When it comes to the enemy, just because they ain't pullin' a trigger, doesn't mean they ain't totin' ammo for those that are."~PegLeg

I'm no prepper, nor an expert on bugging out, but this guy doesn't sound like he knows much of anything about it.  How much stuff can you carry that you can head out and help everyone? They'll split your skull and take your stuff.  The gun is #1.

Hi;

    When Glenn Beck was on Fox - he had 2 wall street guys on talking about "what if" the economy collapsed - dont remember if this guy was 1 of them..They both suggested being prepped and armed also.

     Beck just about fell out of his chair to hear 2 guys from wall street talking about SHTF senarios.

72 hour kit is right out side the garge door.   we have about a month worth of food and several days worth of diesel for the gen.  My main concern now is heating the house,  the fire place works, but i don't make it a point to keep a lot of wood on hand.   the gen can run the hvac if needed, but if the gas gets turned off( which would be very rare)  we are in trouble.  I know i can just get a few cords of wood and be fine, but i would like to have something else.   i guess i could install a storeage tank, but thats a permit night nare.   getting a propane tank and conversion kit is easier and cheaper.

Hi;

     TAB,  I have been looking into a backup plan for my Gas Genny...Propane could be my answer. In 1 of the convertion sites it stated that a 1000 "gal" propane tank will run a propane genny for 550 hours.

     From what I see around my area, people run their gasoline genny's constantly. Thier need for gas resupply would create a shortage quickly.  If I were to "fire" up the proposed/wanted propane genny every other hour for the furnace to run for a 1/2 hr and any water,cooking or washing I need - that 550 hours can turn into 1,500 - 2,000 hrs.

     The longest I was out of power ( pre-gas genny ) was 5 days. I am getting too old to put up with that stuff.....

propane has more btus per cubic foot,(more refined)  which is why you need a diffrent set up( ng flows too much gas)  its very dangerous to run in a ng  in a propane system(boom)  the other way will result in bad burn and  lots of CO, but can work in a disaster.( would have to jerry rig something)

I believe you can get dual fuel generators...run on either LP or NG.  I guess the conversion kits are built in.

To my knowledge I've never heard, or seen even, a LP or NG generator running.

I wondered how the noise compares to a gasoline generator?

THe dueal fuel units either require you change parts( jets, Oraface)  or have 2 metering systems ( and 2 or more hook ups.)   the sound is the same.   the gensets tipically have a better muffler then then protable units.  They also have some with fuel injection that can run on several liquid fuels( gas, kerosene, e 85... No diesel, but they have diesels that can run on propane/ ng and their liquid forms)  they just cost a lot more.   my gen set is a old tow behind, i can power most of the house.

for those that might be looking into long term food storage, or preparing a bug out bag, there are a considerable number of opinions on the internet... for food storage I'd suggest you look at the Wendy DeWitt video (LDS) and a companion LDS book... the vid is a long, but well worth it... I'm not LDS, but they are the pros from Dover...
