Now here is something that will keep thinking people busy for a while

Changing the make up of an entire region
and the list goes on

I read this, and I read it again, and all I have learned is that this is a plan that I can debate with myself about for a long time from both sides.

If they can contribute, come on in!

I'll take it a step further.  I've always thought that the Cubans who are able to make a boat out of an old car that is able to carry 50 people and traverse the distance between there and Florida ought to get special consideration.

At first glance your post sounds sarcastic as hell.
But the rock bottom truth is that the innovation and imagination that turns a 57 Chevy into an ocean liner is the same spirit that built a Super Power out of a wilderness.
If they follow the rules, and support themselves, I say bring them on .
My beef has always been with ILLEGAL immigration.

I think it is an excellent idea.  But will it work?  One thing I see is conflicts with the hard working immigrants and existing free loader population.

Maybe they should send homeless people to Detroit instead. There are plenty of abandoned houses for them to live in. The gov should try to find jobs for Americans first, then immigrants.

Agree.

Get rid of the welfare programs and immigrants will be productive or life off the voluntary charity of those who wish to help.

Put in checks to week out criminals and terrorists and things start working well.

I guess there must be other concerns outside my knowledge though.

How much of Detroit has leaked over to the Flint area?  What's Saginaw look like these days?  East Lansing?  I know GR is doing well enough but Detroit is a statewide problem of mismanagement.  Bringing in another group of people to take what decent jobs there are statewide is a Flintstones bandage trying to stop a leaking femoral artery...

Dude, It's Detroit .
They already tried giving a free house to an American , it's been on the market for over a year and a half with no takers.
Even immigrants would only accept if they haven't seen a newspaper since 1961.
