shooting him 68 times did not violate his civil rights

Story in the Sun Sentinel:

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/local/southflorida/sfl-0605lakelandshooting,0,5076668.story

Quote:
LAKELAND, - The Department of Justice says SWAT team officers didn't use excessive force when they shot the suspected killer of a sheriff's deputy 68 times during a manhunt near Lakeland in 2006.

Angilo Freeland was the man believed to have fatally shot a Polk County deputy and his police dog. Nine officers fired on the 27-year-old after finding him hiding in the woods the next morning. They say a sudden movement by the suspect caused them to fire.

The Justice Department sent a letter to Sheriff Grady Judd this week saying an investigation had concluded that Freeland's civil rights had not been violated.

Don Brown, president of the local NAACP chapter, says he still believes the number of shots fired at Freeland was excessive. He called it ``profoundly disturbing.''

Just in case the link doesn't work.

Back when this happened, they asked the sheriff why they shot him 68 times. He said "We ran out of bullets".
Gotta love it. The poll at the end of the story is good too. Last I looked, 68% said they did not think it was excessive.

7.5 rounds per officer, missed a lot too.
I'm at a loss for words to even comment.  Can you imagine that scene?

When nine+ officers are pointing weapons with giggle switches at you and you don't drop the handgun in your other hand, guess what happens?

But to the point, how can being shot one time, twelve times or sixty-eight times violate the shitbag's rights?  He only had a right to die by five bullets and not sixty-eight?

I was in Lakeland on business when that happened.  My hotel was "locked down" and only guests could come in or out.  I ventured out to a Hooters for a beer and food.  They were very busy traying up tons of food for the LE that were looking for the shitbag.  Good for Hooters for their support.

I'm guessing automatic M4geries were involved too, so the missing was probably lots higher.

Ya gotta give the dirtbag credit for being able to stay vertical long enough to take 68 rounds.  :P

I think I would've given up the ghost about round 35 or 36....37 tops. ;D

When in doubt, keep firing,...reload,,, and fire some more.

Scratch one dirtbag,...
Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."
