bushmaster or S&W M&P. which way do I go?
« on: June 10, 2008, 05:56:50 PM »
I have recently aquired the means to purchase the AR I have always wanted. Now I am facing a real dillema. When I went  to get the Bushmaster, there was a sweet M&P right next to it. I made the mistake of checking it out and wound up leaving without a rifle. I was truly the dog who found two bones. Which is better? Is there an even better one out there?  Is it worth the extra money? HELP!!!

They are both great guns and it will be a tough decision (although it is a can't lose decision as far as I am concerned). Its important to note, S&W is offering a $50 rebate of 2 free mags right now.

The S&W is pricy compared to the Bushmaster, and the rifle is made by Stag Arms for S&W.

I'm happy with my DPMS, way less than half the price of the S&W. Of course, I'm even happier with my Sig 556 which as pricey as it is is still less than the S&W.

IMHO, you're paying a lot for the S&W name without getting more value for the money.

Paid a little less than $1200 for my Sig 556, had a barrel and Wolf ammo issue, but Sig made the barrel right and I don't shoot Wolf.
The M+P 15T was between $850-950. close call on that one. The DPMS, if available, are harder to get in stock (here in NC anyway), good choice as well.
the XCR has interchangeable capabilities, and a Bushmaster is what it is always has been. All good choices, the prices will only go up from here. Fondle them all, find a weight that works for you and research what you want out of this type of rifle.

I really enjoy my Sig with an optics package, the M+P has better factory sights but some type of optics is better.

Good Luck, post pics and enjoy whichever one you choose. Stock up on ammo, or reload. ;D

GunsAmerica has the Sig 556 for $1400 and up now. They will all only go one way in cost.

I was set to purchase a DPMS, couldn't find one in stock in my area. then ran across a S&W 15T for 900.00. At the time they also had a 100.00 rebate. Bought the S&W and love it! Haven't had any problems (about 2000 rds.). Couldn't be happier with my decision. What ever you decide, ENJOY !

S&W's have obviously come down since I was looking. They went from $1200 to $1700 when I looked a year or so ago.

Thanks for the input, Guys. Now, who wants to vicariously build my new Bushmaster with me? I think I want a holo sight. EOtech (AA) looks like the way to go, but big $$$! I have seen other sights (Barska, NC Star, Hakko,) for lots less dough, but I wonder if the quality is even close. Also, I am looking at the front handguard/quad rail systems. Any good/bad experiences? Any input would be graciously appreciated.

I bought the S&W15T.
My EOTech (AA) came from GG&G with their Accu-cam (?) mount and lens covers installed before they sent it out.
This has been a GREAT outfit. The only modification I did was put in a Rock River 2 stage trigger.

If you decide to go Bushy you didn't go wrong IMO, just a little different.

Pic of the new Bushmaster. Kinda plain right now. My gun guy did me right. Threw in 2 extra 30's and 4 20's for no extra $$$. (the 20's are Colt mags.)

That looks nice. Shouldn't need much more than that EOTech, huh?  ;D Had the sig not jumped into my hands, I probably would have ended up with something similar. Great looking rifle.
