We gave up our "land line". If I get a call when I can't take it, it goes to voicemail, but when someone needs to reach me, they can. I'm first on call for two of my customer's security systems and third on call for a third system, mother in a nursing home, pretty much 24 hr service for my customers so I need to be available.
After years of dealing with pagers and coin phones, cell phones are a blessing.
