Democratic White House hopeful Barack Obama launched a new website Thursday devoted to dousing "smears" against the first African-American with a serious shot at the presidency.

The site at www.fightthesmears.com debunks false rumors doing the rounds of the Internet and right-wing media outlets -- including one recent assertion that Obama's wife Michelle has been caught on tape slurring white people.

UPDATE: One interesting lie that they "debunk" is that Obama won’t put his hand over his heart during the Pledge of Allegiance. Here is their video evidence of him doing so. I find it very interesting that in this video, you can't actually hear him recite the pledge even though he has a microphone. However, Senators who are off mike can be very clearly heard reciting the pledge (Begins at 1:35 mark):

I think that he is hoping that someone will call the NAACP...... this is the first step in the whole "if you dissent with Obama, then you are a racist" plan of attack to stop any and all push back.


This is another "great job of debunking" that I found amusing:

Lie:
Barack Obama is a Muslim.

Truth:
Senator Obama has never been a Muslim, was not raised as a Muslim, and is a committed Christian.

Great cross examination there, counsel. I guess the defense rests?

I think he just expects the American people to take him on his word about that one.

Senator Obama was sworn into the U.S. Senate using the Koran.

Truth:
Barack Obama was sworn in using his family Bible.

Yes that is a "book" of some sort pictured, but there is not really any empirical evidence presented to prove that it is a Bible and not a Koran.
