Poll: Conceled Carry vs Open Carry
« on: June 13, 2008, 08:44:46 AM »
Since this has been a hotly debated subject over the past several days on this site, I thought we should see some hard numbers. Like I said earlier, I prefer concealed carry even when open carry is an option.
Everything I needed to learn in life I learned from Country Music.

I voted concealed as that is the way I would most often carry but I would like the choice and I would on occasion open carry.

I put concealed carry cause no matter what in Washington State to carry your handgun in the car you have to have a CCW License. And since I am lazy and dont want to walk everywhere I chose concealed. I would love to open carry, but it is one of those things that have had dumb laws that surrond it so it makes it impossible.
Also concealed carry makes me almost feel safer cause if something goes down the bad gunperson would target me if he saw a handgun on my waist, but if I kept it hidden and pretended I was a sheep I could maybe get in postion to get a good shot off or protect the ones that I can with the perp no the wiser.
Did we win???

Sometimes "Less is More" The less they see, the more surprised they will be when they do see it Voted concealed.

Although, somedays when I go camping, hiking, or to the outdoor range (Nowhere'sville, NC), open carry would be great. It is "legal" here in NC, but has "strings" attached. Usually, I just wait until I get there and open carry all weekend. With a concealed back-up. 8)

Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."

I look at it as how I would mainly be armed.  Open is just TOO obvious and here (MD) isn't exactly a "gun friendly" state so most people would blow a gasket seeing a gun on anybody without a badge.  Sure if it was legal there would be relatively few occasions that open carry would be the way to go but not usually.

Here in NH open carry is not restricted, But I carry concealed because as other have said I see no reason to paint a target on my head. Also, by carrying cocealed ALL the time my pistol is ALWAYS in the same place and position.
Does anyone else remember the scene from the 2nd Indiana Jones movie when he's on the rope bridge and the guy with the sword comes at him, He goes for his pistol but it's not there. Emarrassing at best.

Concealed carry for the same reason that I use a handicap parking mirror tag in my car instead of handicap plates, so as to not paint a bullseye on my back!!  And trust me, a back this frickin big would be hard to miss!!   ;)

I put concealed carry even though most of the times I have carried in the last few years have been open carry while hunting or in the woods just walking around.
IMO the threat level here is very low. So I don't bother to carry unless I am heading for the big city -- which I try very hard to avoid. My current concealed carry guns are a .38 S&W M36 square butt or a SIG P239 in .357 SIG. On occasion I have carried a .45 or my favorite S&W Combat Magnum (aka M19 later) concealed. But back in the days I did that either the bad guys or large cats were all around and the threat assessment justified the big boomers.
But I am considering a Ruger .380 or a 3AT purchase for carrying more often.
