Midway Island

Were any of you guys ever stationed on Midway Island or did some of you pass through? 

You may be interested that www.maps.google.com evidently has driven around the island some time ago with some pretty high quality land pics.  I've been perusing the pics for a while and they are very interesting.  For location you just have to plug in Midway Island, Hawaii and then drag the little stick fellow where you want to browse.

I had orders to Midway in '76 but they were changed to Iceland after a bit of legal trouble I had.  I think with my fair complexion, it was probably a blessing.  I doubt I could have survived another year in the hot sun after spending a year in Key West!

Three of my best buddies were both stationed there for a year.  It was one of the Pacific Sosus locations that we were assigned to.  Two have mentioned that it was a nightmare being there.  Barry did meet his wife of the last 37 years though...  Craig has nothing good to say...other than finding Jap fish balls and goony bird shit everywhere.

A lot of history there, not all of it good!
