The only thing that would change if we opened up things for more off shore drilling is, we would buy less oil from the middle east.

Which would be a good thing, but it won't effect gas prices one bit.  Not only would it take years for them to get up and running, it would also cost about the same.

What we really need is more refinerys...  thats where the "bottle neck" in the fuel supply is.

TAB,

How about we do both?  Drill for oil (will help prices go down) and new / expanded refineries for improved capacity and efficiency.

We should also stop all of the blends mandated by every state.

YES!  Drill more and build more refineries!  We haven't built a new refinery in what, 25+ years?  We need to work towards less consumption and to develop alternative fuel sources that don't effect our food chain.

First in America Since 1976
June 4, 2008

Voters in Elk Point, SD have said yes to a zoning ordinance that would result in construction of the nation’s newest oil refinery in over 30 years.

We have had the opportunity since the OPEC oil embargo in the "70's to develop alternatives but we have not done it.  So how are we going to turn on a dime and make it happen now?

Everything has an impact on the food chain.  Look at ethanol production.  It takes food out of the food chain, uses huge amount of fossil fuels to grow and refine and the plants literally stink.  Batteries for hybrid cars use huge amounts of water to produce, are encased in plastic developed from oil and are a hazardous waste when depleted.  Solar panels are like computer chips – they are made with toxic materials, contain lead, and are considered a hazardous waste when depleted.  The florescent replacement light bulbs contain mercury and are considered a hazardous waste when depleted.

Where do you think this stuff gets made?  In factories that produce pollution by workers who commute and use energy.  Energy that, for the most part is made by fossil fuels and nuclear energy.

THRE IS NO ECOLOGICAL FREE LUNCH!

I'll say it again we need multiifaceted solution that includes increasing domestic production of traditional energy and nuclear combined with developing alternative sources of energy - and yes conservation.

Good Luck!

what we really need to do is stop mandating the use of ethonal...  the only reason why we have the programs we do now is so people get elected/relected.
