OK, show of hands people.....

I was wondering how many of you have the new LCP or have had some experience shooting it yet, and what your opinions were. I posted my review of the gun on the "Product Reviews" section of the website (Can't believe that there were only 2 others to do that).

Also wondering if any of you guys also have the P3AT? I was wondering how you think it stacks up to the LCP.

Hey NRA 4 Life, I have owned a P3AT for about 2 months now, had to order it from Texas on GunsAmerica, because there is a waiting list for them here. The LCP is the same very high demand, as soon as our gun stores get them, they sell.

I used to not be a pocket gun kinda guy, my previous "smallest" pistol was/is a Walther PPK/S, slightly heavy in summer attire. NOT the P3AT! This thing has been great, less of a print than my cigarette pack, and I attached the IWB clip and can tuck it in the 4:00 position (lefty), Also the +1 mag extensions help with grip. Even though there is no slide stop like the LCP, its as simple and snag free as any pocket pistol, and I just pay more attention to my shot count.

The LCP is more expensive and both are designed with the same purpose in mind. I have fondled the LCP and it came down to researching the Kel-tec forum threads about the P3 and finding out as much as I can. The P3 has a polymer mag release, which can wear down if magazines are slammed home. BUT Kel-Tec has steel ones, and their customer service is not as corporate as Ruger.

With Ruger busy with the SR9 "issue", any problems with the LCP can take MUCH longer to resolve.

My carry ammo is Rem Golden Sabres, or Speer Gold-Dot. No issues, but it likes to be clean.

There used to be a couple of threads here about folks' experiences with them.

I got an LCP fairly early, had one on order, the store went from 1 on order to about 8 because of demand.

I nicknamed it - the only gun I own with a nickname BTW - the Noisy Cricket after MIB 1. When I first shot it, I had a decent grip, but it jumped and surprised me. Too used to .45's I guess. 

Anyhow, best thing I did was get the mag extension made for Kel-Techs, gives just that little extra finger hold and stabilizes the thing much better.

Fun gn to shoot. I carried for a day of hard work and driving in a DeSantis pocket holster - 15 hours - never noticed it but did check on it occasionally cuz I did not notice it.

I had one of the first LCP's sent out and love the little thing and only had one somewhat major issue. After running only 10 shots through it there was an obvious problem with case extraction and ejection. It was smashing the case and tearing a gash in the rim of every spent cartridge. It was sent into Ruger and after a three week stay it came back and performs flawlessly. The fix was a little ramp machining and a new frame insert.

Quite honestly I am very surprised how accurate this thing is once you "learn" where it shoots the hard to see sights aren't that bad. Mine is 100% OE without any extensions but if Ruger made one that fit 100% right I would pick one up.

I've only got 100 rounds through mine so far...but its been 100%. I got it for a summer carry gun, and it fits that bill perfectly. I carry it in a DeSantis Insider at about 4:00 with a t-shirt over it and no one knows its there (except me).

I have owned one for months and it has had problems now 3 times.

After getting it back from Ruger the firing pin broke after 50 rounds.

I just got a LCP today after waiting since June '08 (It's now October!).  I have to say that I'm not all that impressed, especially for something with the Ruger name:

Compared with the Kel-Tec .380 auto it looks nicer and it does have a slide stop (although you have to manually set it...so that's not such an advantage really)

It kicks just about as hard

Mechanically it feels a bit tighter...slide play and etc.

I took it to the range straight away and put 50 Winchester Valuepacks through it nice and slow...no problem.  It was pretty inaccurate past 25 feet and wanted to place the bullets low and to the right of the X ring....it did so in a nice tight grouping.  1 inch down and 1 inch to the right of the X ring. (OK...I know that could be me, I understand that but I've been shooting for a long time and I did have a Ket Tel 380 auto for years...so I am somewhat comfortable with small pocket rockets.)

BUT...and this I am not happy about AT ALLl....after 50 rounds I loaded up for some front-sight-only-on-the-target-fast-as-I-could squeeze 'em off shootung.  It lasted about 25 rounds and then........nothing. 

No fire.

 I could pull the hammer back all day, pull it back hard and ...nothing.  The hammer remained frozen in that 1/2 cocked position.  I checked inside...no stuck brass, made sure the slide was seated correctly...still nothing. Racked the slide about a dozen times...nothing.

I would've hoped for better from Ruger.  It made me wonder if they got massively backordered this past summer because they did not correctly anticipate the demand and then suddenly started flooding the market with 2nds, less than Ruger quality or units made by some contract manufacturer.  That is not uncommon for other companies to do that when they get caught by overwhelming demand.

The Kel-Tec looked cheap, kicked harder. threw brass back into my face about every 3rd round and after about 2,000 rounds started to stovepipe...but every time I pulled the trigger the hammer fell. I liked the real DAO of the Kel-tec too...that 1/2 cock of the Ruger hammer makes me wonder if it'll go bang if (lightly) dropped.*

It's going back tomorrow. 

The Kel-tec .32ACP I bought this Spring has the same 1/2 cock configuration...it must be something new.

PS:  Just found out that the list has shrunk by 4 last month and early this month.  Sounds like Ruger is putting them out a little faster now.

My LCP, one of the very early ones, been a rock, even with the hot Cor-Bons and Pow'r Balls...I carry it in a DeSantis pocket holster and, on my bicycle, in a Wilderness Tactical SafePacker. It has pretty much replaced my J-frames as the "stick it in the pocket" gun.

I've shot one and they are nice little guns but not worth  waiting monthsto get one. My J-frame does just fine in the pocket.
