I went to breakfast a week ago Sunday, and a couple walked in with a little girl. The wife was wearing a Citadel t-shirt. Being the chauvinist male pig I am, I asked the guy if he went to the Citadel. He said yes, and his wife chimed in that they met in Charleston - one of my favorite all time cities in the US.
We chatted, turned out he was a unit commander for the Army here. As we said goodbyes - they had a table open up, I turned, said thanks for your service and shook his hand. I think he was pleasantly surprised, said thanks, and there we parted.
I try to do the same with all in uniform, at the airport or working a Toys for Tots table.
