All in all, it is a fair pro-gun bill that clarifies, even further, some language that should have been in SB308 a few years back (passed in 2010, after some watering down).

This was a stronger bill as originally written, but Georgia seems to have some spineless RINO state Senators on the committee that funnels these bills from the House to the Senate floor and they always water them down....or gut them completely year after year.

This time, the House did an end-run, after the committee did their number, by tacking it onto the tail of another bill that had previously went through.

Now we wait on the jellyfish known as Gov. Nathan Deal to decide what to do.
As long as there is no veto, it will be OK. If he signs it, deal done...if he doesn't sign, but also doesn't veto, then it automatically goes into law after 40 days, so that is OK too.

**There were many items for consideration, but the main issues in the bill that were causing all the hang-ups were changing language allowing CCW rights in 'bars'...(where now it applies only to restaurants that serve alcohol), opt-in ability for churches to allow CCW in their buildings, and hunting with suppressors.

I hope he signs it so it will go into effect before I need to renew my CCW later this year. I have always thought it was silly to have to be fingerprinted every time.

Go. Deal speaks on the new law......and, based on some of his past statements, it is surprising that he supported it.......of course, it IS an election year.  ::)

One aspect of the law had law enforcement officials speaking out because it would place some restrictions on their investigations.  Line 788 of the bill reads "A person carrying a weapon shall not be subject to detention for the sole purpose of investigating whether such person has a weapons carry permit."

FOX 31 asked Gov. Deal for his reaction to law enforcement's concerns with the gun bill.

"There was some concern about whether or not you could just because you see someone carrying a weapon, that would automatically entitle you to stop them and ask for identification,” Gov. Deal said. “Well that's no different than anything else. If it is a constitutional right to have that weapon, you just don't have a right to stop people and arbitrarily ask them to prove that they have a right to exercise that constitutional right. It's probable cause requirement which has always been the standard that the law puts in place."

Gov. Deal says his reaction to those who think the law jeopardizes safety is to “read the bill.”

If you have to use political tricks to get the bast**ds to do the right thing you may be on the right track, but you still have a long trip to the station.

Possible that he is done this election.
Too many folks tired of the "RHINO Rodeo".......

The wife and I went last week and early voted for the May 20th primary.....there were three Republicans on the ballot for Governor....along with a (D), an (L), and  Socialist Workers Party candidate.

*Of particular note, the (D) that is running is Jason Carter.....grandson of the former worst PotUS.

I had heard a while back that Peanut boys Grandson was going to run.
If he was worth a crap he would have changed his last name from shame.
Although I have to say that I had always thought Amy was an only child, so the son seems to have kept as much distance as possible from the "Washington Hillbillies".
