New Front sight for RIA Rock Island 1911 TCM
« on: April 01, 2014, 09:52:58 AM »
 8) I just got a new Rock Island Armscor 1911 TCM/9mm

It is a blast to shoot but I want a better, more visible front sight.

Any suggestions?

I have a sight press and can do minor fitting, but I do hate to file.

I used to be open minded but my brain kept falling out.

If I wanted a new sight I would get one with a white dot. Or you could paint the sight with a bright colored nail polish instead so you don't have to get a new one.

I agree with jf about the paint.  When I paint mine I use white as a base coat or two and then add the color, usually green.  White first helps the green stand out.

I have a nice bright orange nail polish I like that was stolen from my daughter...

I also prefer to black out my rear sight as well.  To each his own.

I prefer tritium, (Novak)...if not that then a gold bead.
I haven't tried any of the fiber optic sights except on clay/bird guns. I want metal on a potential serious use gun.

I shoot nothing but flat black, but if you want a highlighted sight and not fiber optic.... a pistolsmith friend places a round headed brass tack in a drilled front sight for some of the CAS folks...you might find a sourdough front sight in a dovetail configuration

I'm looking at this modification on one of my Super Blackhawks. I plan to drill a set depth and then use gold solder melted into the hole and then polished smooth. I saw one done like that at the range once and liked the look and sight picture it gave.
