Snubbie J Frame Grips

I'm thinking of removing my Model 60 no dash J frame wooden service grip with Tyler T grip set up for a set of Pachmayr Compacs.  No real reason other than the wooden grip gets beaten up in summer months with respect to perspiration when worn on a belt.  Anyone have any experiences with these Pachmayrs.........good or bad?   The other possible alternative is a set of Uncle Mikes Boot Grips, the type that S&W uses on their Airweight models.

I'd get a set of Spegel or Eagle Secret Service boot grips as they are beautiful, but I'm afraid the same damage to the finish would occur from perspiration so I'm opting for a rubber solution......at least for the summer.  Just don't know how concealable the Pachmayrs are as they do cover the backstrap, unlike the Uncle Mikes.  I often also carry the J frame in a Mika pocket holster.

I have a J Frame 637 Airweight with the Uncle Mikes grips.  They are pretty good and not bad when shooting.  Have you considered the Crimson Trace grips.  Pricey but worth it.  That will be my next step.

That's what I use on my stainless Model 60 - great grip and a laser thrown in for good measure. Very nice, fit well and the gun sticks in your hand like it's glued. With a gun that small, the laser is great to have.

Hey Pathfinder, I tried a fellow shooter's CT grips on his J frame two years ago. Liked them. Do they require re-alignment from time to time? Mac.

Naw, just every time I shoot it. It's a safe queen too, so the safe gremlins must be getting to it and changing the settings.

Actually, at CQB distances the adjustments aren't that big. And I am retentive too, so it may just be me.

I went online at looked at Pachmayr's grips.  They have the Compac Professional with open backstrap.  I have used Pachmayr grips on several pistols and like them.  In a previous life, I carried a 2 1/2" S&W Model 19 that came with wood grips.  I switched to Pachmayr round butt grips and carried that way for 6 years.  Concealed carry on Bianchi pancake belt holster, didn't have much choice then.  Also used Pachmayr on competition guns and a S&W 629. 

I also looked at the Mika pocket holster.  Looks good.  Will probably try it as I don't care much for the plastic hoster that came with J Frame.

Thanks.....I noticed those Pachmayr Compac Professionals as well and am kind of torn between the two.  As far as the Mika pocket holster goes.....trust me on this one as I've just about tried them all...the Robert Mika holster stands head and shoulders above the rest.  And for $18.95 where else can you get a hand made custom holster by one of the best people you will ever deal with...I highly recommend Bob's work as, after all, he supplied most of the LAPD with his holsters while he was a member of their force.

Thanks CDR.  Remembered that I have used the Tyler T grip, did not like it.  Narrows your grip area.  Only because I have more experience with them, I personally would go with the Pachmayrs, though I would check the size difference between them and Uncle Mikes.

Thanks DesertMarine and everyone else who responded.  I've ordered a set of Pachmayr Compacs and will give them a try.  I figure it will make for a nice change with respect to shooting comfort as I generally put about 150 rounds of standard .38 spl through my steel J frame when I go to the range for practice.  I always finish off with couple of cylinders of +Ps, given that is what I always carry, and they do tend to pound the palm a bit with the service grip/Tyler grip set up.

The ones on my dad's Kimber haven't been adjusted for at least 6 years, and when we took it to the range last moth they were still right on.
