Found this quote and posted the below to my FB Page.  I cannot help but feel that wisdom that is current almost 2 and a half centuries after it was expressed has proven to hold an enduring truth.

Written by Samual Adams, 243 years ago....amazing relevant today.

Essay, written under the pseudonym "Candidus," in The Boston Gazette (14 October 1771) Later published in "The Life and Public Services of Samuel Adams" (1865) by William Vincent Wells, p. 425

The liberties of our Country, the freedom of our civil constitution are worth defending at all hazards: And it is our duty to defend them against all attacks. We have receiv'd them as a fair Inheritance from our worthy Ancestors: They purchas'd them for us with toil and danger and expence of treasure and blood; and transmitted them to us with care and diligence. It will bring an everlasting mark of infamy on the present generation, enlightened as it is, if we should suffer them to be wrested from us by violence without a struggle; or be cheated out of them by the artifices of false and designing men. Of the latter we are in most danger at present: Let us therefore be aware of it. I have repeatedly said the writers of the Constitution screwed up badly when they assumed an informed electorate making a choice between intelligent men of good character.
Recent elections prove we have neither.

We have intelligent men of good character, they're simply too intelligent to subject themselves to associate with the stupid men of bad character who comprise the vast majority of our .gov.

The Constitution needs to be rewritten so that even lawyers and idiots can't screw it up.
For example, how's this for a first few Amendments;
1 "If you don't like your neighbors religious beliefs, to damned bad, (except muslims who should be deported )
You may say or print anything you can prove and if people don't like it they don't have to read or listen.
You may PEACEABLY assemble for redress of greivences, this does not include looting, assault or arson, perpetrators of which may be freely beaten or shot by witnesses."
2 "All law abiding citizens will carry guns outside their homes . Police may stop and verify compliance."
3 "Govt forces are given tents for a reason, use them and stay off private property without invitation."
4 "Get a legitimate warrant or get shot by your employers "We the people"."

Think the lawyers could screw them up ?

I like them...need to add assault  to looting and arson.....I know you'd think that would go with out saying...but so would arson and looting...

2 is subtle.  Must be armed outside your home..   If you choose not to be prepared to protect yourself, family and property in your own home, that is your concern, but you WILL be armed and prepared to protect others when outside your home.

Hmm....1 is very broad...now..not so much in the new version.   As the new version is written, works of fiction are not protected..might need a 1a, 1b and a few more to cover all that we would want to cover from the current 1st.

More thoughts....yeah..I think a lawyer can screw up 2.   ..saying going armed means with a sling shot...so everything else is allowed to be prohibited.

There, I fixed 1 and 2.
Thinking "it should go with out saying" is part of how they screwed up the first time.
There would be a #11 in the Bill of Rights as well,
"#11 These rights only apply to law abiding CITIZENS who are not serving in Govt jobs."
