Not Shooting Gallery, but tonight, American Rifleman, put on a really good show about the Army Marksmanship Unit. How they are taking modern day techniques and Olden day techniques like reading the wind and mirage and making their M4's deliver with civilian marksmanship help. I definitely thought this was one of their better efforts. SG is not on 24 hours a day like I would like. So I do go to the dark side, but We do mostly belong to the NRA right....

I hope some of you saw it too.

I did, was working on other stuff and had it on kind of in the background. Noticed the old movies from the training range, really liked the training our guys are getting today. Not at all static, and I especially liked the part where they had the guys shooting to 500m and then immediately shooting to 50m. Probably comes in handy in the sandbox.

If nothing else, they know how to shoot,.. and shoot well. Its been that way, and I'm thankful that hasn't changed.

If anyone has not been to the Camp Perry Nationals during the summer you should really put it on your life list. The small arms firing schools (2 day classes for Rifle and Pistol) are run by the AMU and the service shooting squads. I had the honor of taking the pistol SAFS a couple of years ago. By luck of the draw I was teamed up with none other than Marine Guny Sgt. Brian Zins. Here I was a total and absolute novice to bullseye getting one on one instruction from the all time champion of the sport. He is a very nice guy and it goes down as a high light to my shooting life. Did the rifle SAFS a couple of years later and that also was a great experience.

Yes, that was a good episode.  Used to be only the Marines could shoot!  I guess the Army finally decided to take marksmanship a little more seriously!  (Just kidding, Army guys, don't get p.o.ed!)

you know its funny, all of the vets( I've not shot with anyone currently in the army) I know that were army( from Korea to 1st gulf war) are much better shots then all but one of the marines/ marine vets... but he went into the marines a good shot.
